Located at the Boddington Gold Mine and reporting to the site HR Manager this role looked after the human resource needs for the Mining Department which had approximately 380 permanent staff members both professional and blue collar. The site itself had approximately 650 permanent staff and about 400 long term contractors at that time. With a workforce of this size some of the key challenges when taking on this role were the establishment of reporting systems and metrics for the operations personnel and in providing advice to supervisors and front-line managers on industrial relations and disciplinary matters. The Boddington Gold Mine was to be, at the time, the largest gold/copper mine in Australia with a mine life of over 20 years and an annual production rate of approximately 800,000 ounces per annum.Headhunted into this role, the task was to recruit the permanent workforce for the operation.
