Alexander Shenkin personal email
I conduct research on forests, especially tropical ones, and I focus on how their structure affects how they cycle carbon, interact with the atmosphere, and respond to climate change. I also study how contemporary anthropogenic change (e.g. logging, increased droughts, fire) interacts to affect the resilience of these forests as we move into an uncertain future.More recently, I have been leveraging my background in electrical engineering and physics to employ novel methods such as terrestrial laser scanning to open up new avenues to understand ecosystem structure and function on scales previously unattainable. My recent work focuses on using these methods to push our knowledge to new limits.I am spinning out some of our recent discoveries into a climate-tech venture to increase their positive impact on the natural world.
