During a sabbatical, I volunteered my time with the Seattle Public Utilities RainWise program through the US Digital Response, helping them understand how to reach out to the potential customers of their rain barrel cisterns and rain garden services provided by their network of contractors.

I apply user-centered design and product skills toward helping groceries waste less food. Shelf Engine delivers better food purchasing forecasts through data science, operational excellence, and great digital products for our customers.As the first design hire at Shelf Engine, I'm helping establish good UX practices alongside my engineering, product, operations, marketing, and sales colleagues across all our customer and user touchpoints.

As a member of the VMware Tanzu Labs services strategy team, I perform both product consulting for our software development clients, as well as provide senior leadership for our design and product community.

As a designer at Embroker, I focused on helping entrepreneurs reach their full potential by protecting their business with simple, elegant business insurance coverage. I was responsible for building onboarding, API integrations, certificates of coverage, shopping for insurance, and other features core to the business. I helped onboard and mentor our international team of designers in Belgrade, Serbia, as well as collaborate internationally with our distributed engineering team.

I helped Embroker form and scale its user research and usability testing practice. I was promoted to full-time product designer at the end of my initial contract.

I consult with larger corporations, startups, and nonprofits to help design better digital experiences and services. Sample clients include:*LIHI.org - The Low Income Housing Institute helps provide housing for those in need in the Seattle area. *Embroker - Stanford StartX accelerator startup focusing on modernizing business insurance. *IBM Design - Facilitated design workshops with keystone clients like Macys.com and delivered user research, wireframes, and interactive prototypes. *Scoop - Scoop's mobile app is transforming the commuting experience. Worked with a team to develop an emotional design strategy and prototype aimed at developing community and connection among users (and data visualizations that supported that goal.)

Amplifying the impact, learning, and entrepreneurship of our Code for America fellows. Supporting the development of the first civic startup Accelerator.

I supported our programs/operations across government grants, philanthropy projects, and social enterprises that are devoted to closing the Digital Divide across the United States. I also collaborated with like-minded organizations to innovate social media strategies and social enterprise strategies.I led our eAdvocacy team in blogging on campaigns and gov 2.0 initiatives for change, with a special focus on the role of nonprofits and foundations.

Participated in a highly competitive nine-month exploratory learning and leadership-training program in public affairs. Placements include month long projects to explore the sectors of government, philanthropy, business, politics, and labor, such as:• Storefront Political Media – Worked at the renowned political consulting group supporting Phil Ting’s campaign for mayor. Trained Phil Ting’s campaign manager in database management, helped plan a 250 person community gathering, and outreached via blogging/social media for Reset SF, Phil Ting’s online forum for ideas to improve SF government • UC Students Association – Organized and facilitated an event on collective bargaining with representatives from AFSCHME, UPTE, CUE-IBT, UAW, UCAFT and UC Santa Cruz students interested in collaborating. • San Francisco Department of Public Works – Redesigned the SFDPW ESER 2 bond website to better integrate with social media and share information about seismic retrofits of SF fire and police stations. • Menlo Park City Council – Tracked outreach to voter precincts by developing a dynamic Google Earth map of precincts to be walked or completed. Managed and coded candidate’s Stumpwise website, blog, and Facebook ads. • Lesher Center for the Arts – Co-developed a marketing and social media plan for attracting 18-40 year olds. • California Emerging Technology Fund – Coordinated and facilitated two mini-conferences in 3 weeks for the California Emerging Technology Fund, a venture philanthropy that funds nonprofits that help close the Digital Divide. • Coro’s Social Enterprise Pitch Night –Co-presented and developed a concept for a mobile app that was judged most fundable by a panel of venture capitalists at a business plan competition at the Silicon Valley Community Foundation.

Public Allies places motivated young professionals in nonprofits to build both their own skills and the capacity of the organization. Through my placement as a Public Ally with the GSA Network, I supported LGBTQ youth and their allies in fighting homophobia and transphobia in schools by coordinating conferences, lobby days, and technical assistance at high school GSA clubs.
