I hold a Bachelor of Tourism Management degree from Capilano University in Vancouver, BC. Currently a flight attendant flying for Air Canada, I have also worked at one of Vancouver's top ten cultural attractions, as well as a luxury tour operator. Why tourism? Mark Twain said it best: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.”Travel and tourism broadens, enlightens, rejuvenates, inspires, and bonds. Today’s world is an oyster cracked wide open, with a pearl that is easily accessible and tightly interconnected. Travel -for leisure, for work, for survival- continues to grow at record pace and I want to be part of this exciting reality. As a flight attendant at Air Canada, our motto is: “the best of Canada across the globe”. I am a proud representative of Brand Canada in uniform onboard our aircraft, and in the cities of the world. I've learned much about the benefits of establishing a good brand and how it can be positively leveraged by an organization. Working at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden taught me the appeals of cultural tourism and how a desire for unique experiences and knowledge are key drivers for travel. At the shop, I learned the ins and outs of retail, and how education and curation can be sales tools. I loved offering tangible things to visitors and being an extension of their experience. Being responsible for the shop’s visual branding and communications, I was able to fully utilize my creativity, resourcefulness, and love of creating a compelling, thematic story. In my professional experiences, empathy and positivity have helped me to connect to others.• I’m a hardworking and reliable team player because I’ve had to work in so many of them.• I’ve trained staff and volunteers to standards that can produce results. • I’ve worked in fast paced, stressful, and constantly changing environments that required resourcefulness, problem solving, and quick action to resolve issues. • I care about details because, whether it’s making sure the logo on a napkin faces a passenger correctly or inputting inventory numbers into a database, they matter. • I use prose, photography, and Photoshop to produce graphic and communication designs for print marketing and social media to engage customers.I enjoy cultural tourism and transportation the most but am open to positions in other tourism sectors like accommodations to build more skills, experience, and knowledge. I remain adaptable, ready to learn and ready to work my way up in the industry.
