Innovyz USA was a deep-tech founding studio that sourced novel technologies from Universities and National Laboratories to found new independent companies around- It focused on manufacturing and materials technologies for energy, sustainability, and AgTech- Every year nearly 3000 technologies were evaluated from dozens of universities and laboratories- Oversaw all operational aspects outside of finance- Refined, improved, and standardized processes for sourcing, evaluating, and launching new technologies as companies- Led the effort to identify, cultivate, and recruit new CEOs- Enabled scaling of processes from 1 company/year to 8 companies/year • Grew the team from 5 to 16 people to support the increased throughputSuccessfully launched- Psymetis - Cyber/physical security solution for monitoring the electric grid - psymetis.com- Fornax Advanced Materials - Advanced ceramics for military and defense applications - fornaxadvancedmaterials.com- REETerra - Rare earth element (REE) extraction method that simplifies REE recovery with a lower environmental footprint than traditional methods - reeterra.com- 5 more companies were cultivated and in process for independent capital raises at time of departure with 3 more technologies in the pipeline

In order to accelerate materials development, I designed and led the development and deployment of automated PVD synthesis and characterization in a fully integrated lights-out robotic system. This included the development of research workflows, design for automation of parts and processes, the design and fabrication of a fully custom electro-chemical testing system, and the integration of six different 3rd party analytical devices. Along the way we also developed a custom informatics platform to enable fully autonomous decision making via ML/AI.

Here I oversaw and supported materials development, characterization, prototyping and FA activities affecting all Apple products. This has included:- Brought up new capabilities for materials fabrication & characterization (everything from composition to SEM/STEM)- Extensive root cause and failure analysis- Designed and built-out of a 35kSF US based research facility & the supporting team- Oversaw a 180 person Asia based team for prototyping and process development

- Supported the launch of 7000 series Aluminum on the iPhone 6s & 6s+ including troubleshooting up and down the supply chain.- Created & implemented development frameworks for new materials development activities.- Developed novel in-process part-level injection molding temperature measurement solutions.

Combustor Technology Development

Managed a $17M advanced military combustor development program- Directed a multidisciplinary team of 26 people - Planned and executed on subcomponent and full assembly test rigs- Reduced analysis time and manpower requirements by 25% for thermal and structural analyses by implementing automated workflows- Managed budget to within 2% on all government accounting metricsExecuted a comprehensive trade study for advanced combustor coatings- Projected cost savings of over $40M over one engine line- Presented the technical and business case to VP of Engineering & Operations- Proposal accepted by management and the technology is currently undergoing implementation into multiple engine platformsDirected a time critical root cause investigation on an experimental rig failure at NASA - Assimilated necessary experts and resources, determined root cause, identified and implemented a solution and successfully executed to complete test objectives- Test produced record low combustor emissions and resulted in a $19M competitive contract win from NASA- Received the 2012 United Technologies Research Center Outstanding Achievement AwardLed campus recruiting and hiring efforts at a P&W Center of Excellence University (Georgia Tech)- Increased branding and engagement activities 4x- Developed new marketing platforms for PW recruiting- Conducted candidate interviews and held hiring decision authority

Doctoral Thesis: “An Investigation of the Kinetics for the Fast Pyrolysis of Loblolly Pine Woody Biomass” - Developed biofuel kinetic descriptors for converting the most abundant forest feedstock in the southeastern US (Loblolly Pine) into bio-oil- Prototyped a unique reactor system for fast pyrolysis - Developed a statistically robust global optimization method for the determination of kinetic coefficients- ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists) Scholar Award winner 2010

Oversight of instructional and fabrication laboratories for 220+ students including equipment and materials procurement, and provision of training for 9 other Teaching Assistants.Teaching and advisement to students on formal engineering design, evaluation and project planning processes and their incorporation into technical writing. Instruction on the fundamentals of machining with lathes and mills as well as waterjet operation and basic mechatronics.

Gathering organization, planning and facilitating including speaking and coordinating guest speakers for weekly meetings.Event planning and travel logistics as well as fund raising.Individual counseling and discipleship.

Created original CAD drawings for wiring diagrams of electrical circuits. Researched and documented government corrections to submitted building plans. Edited architectural CAD drawings prior to engineering additions for HVAC, lighting, and fire sprinkler specifications. Blueprint productions.
