I’ll be honest, being in the industry for over 15 years, I was skeptical when I heard the Technical Director for my company was such a young guy. We know the stereotype. Some young gun who is good any what they do, but perhaps over confident and promoted too quick and early, lots of potential, but not so much wisdom. Thank goodness, this is not Alex. Alex broke this stereotype for me, as I realized not only did he have the technical depth and knowledge (thanks to his yrs of experience as a teen - no doubt a coding child prodigy) but what impressed me most is his level-headed down-to-earth nature, made him an awesome guy to work for, who brought out the best in you, and a great intelligence that benefited all of our projects and customers, but even more important, was framed by humility and a learner attitude. Let’s be frank, technology is always changing, and what is needed is someone who knows that they don’t know it all, simply because there are things yet to be invented. Alex brings that excellent mix where he is deep in the technology, able to look beyond technology to technical strategy, great at human interactions, a leader, and an all-around problem solver. Most of all, I found Alex to have a wisdom I wouldn’t expect for his years. That is a huge compliment. While I’ve moved on doing other work, I still get together with Alex from time to time, and honestly do miss working with him. The conversations are always great.
