I am just a curious human that loves to ask questions and tries to make a positive impact in this world.For many years, I have conducted academic research on various topics related to brain development. The brain is fascinating because, unlike any other organ, it generates a rich interplay of internal states and external actions. This is what we call behavior. Understanding behavior is one of the main reasons people study the brain, or at least why I did. Although the setting of a contemporary neurobiology lab is particularly beneficial to gain mechanistic insights into the workings of the brain, I was lacking an important dimension: brains belong to individuals with their very own, unique set of emotions, motivations and cognitive abilities. A brain belongs to somebody. While I have been using animals to gain knowledge, I was bothered that I didn't give back to them or improve their living conditions through the knowledge I generated.During this time, a dog came accidentally into my life, quickly followed by another. Naturally, I immersed myself on all things canine. I spent countless hours observing, wondering, learning. My fascination with how these incredible animals evolved to live and communicate with humans only grew bigger. I became certified as a canine behavior specialist and trainer. But the truth is that I am not interested in training dogs. I am interested in learning from them, understanding them and creating a deeper bond with them. There is nothing more magical than a bond between individuals of different species based on mutuality. Since those early days, my mission has only grown clearer and stronger: to improve the lives of dogs and their humans.
