In my role as Career Coach, I work with clients in the Detroit area using a client-centered, strength-based and collaborative approach to support in finding sustainable employment and navigate the challenges and barriers of employment especially during these unprecedented times. In this role I aid clients in resume creation, interview practice, job searching, job applications, career coaching, transportation and childcare issues, ELL and skills training, education and more. In this role I will also work with other Detroit community organizations and employers to create local and meaningful long-term partnerships and opportunities. -Built community coalitions and mobilized young voters surrounding voting, progressive political issues, equity and anti-oppression-Spearheaded voting efforts for those experiencing homelessness or voter suppression and on college campuses primarily at Michigan State University and also at Wayne State University and University of Michigan Dearborn; Collaborated with students, organizations, faculty and admin to raise voter education; Founded NextGen registered student organization at MSU-Organized digitally by recruiting volunteers and following-up, maintaining community relationships, phonebanking and textbanking to reach voters, pitching hard asks for volunteering shifts, presenting 15+ class and organization presentations to increase voter turnout, training ~100 volunteers to phonebank and textbank, overseeing social media account of 400 followers-Campaigned in-person pre-COVID19 using grassroots techniques such as door knocking, clipboarding, canvassing and event planning in Detroit -Hosted, orchestrated and advertised 17 virtual events, direct actions or groups with ~300 participants such as a No More Cop Money Phone Zap action, anti-racist reading group, statewide vote-by-mail concert and voter education event, Protest and Activism Around the World panels-Managed 3 fellows in weekly tasks to reach metrics; Mentored in use of tools and organizing tactics, VAN, making hard asks and performing effective class presentations-Demonstrated proficiency in voter registration, EveryAction/VAN to pull volunteer and voter lists, facilitating 1:1’s, collecting survey data-Created ~10 graphics using Canva for event advertising and voter education-Made ~500 manual volunteer recruitment calls, 3000+ texts and autodialer calls to voters weekly during the pandemic-Exceeded metrics over 100% weekly-Worked extended hours and maintained flexibility during the in-person to remote transition

-Administer instruction in Writing, Sociology, Psychology and Spanish to graduate and undergraduate students (including ELL clients)-Improve students’ writing skills and ability to improve their own writing; students achieved “A” grades on all assignments-Assess student progress via spreadsheets and school platforms and encourage positive study skills and assignment schedules to remain on track and improve grades-Gained positive student and parent reviews and recommendations

I taught two sections of basic-intermediate English Second Language classes at the Islamic Center of Detroit to adult immigrants and refugees from a variety of countries. I independently planned and created the curriculum navigating various proficiency levels in each course, as well specific needs. I focused part of the class on important grammar concepts and the other part on relevant, everyday cultural situations like going to the doctor, filling out forms or speaking on behalf of your child at school. Additionally, I have done data management and analysis and taught Citizenship classes for the IIMD.

-Taught 11 interactive basic level weekly English classes to about 400 university students based in speaking and writing -Prepared class content that fostered speaking and writing in a culturally relevant way-Facilitated English conversation clubs on various sociological, psychological and historical topics -Provided tutoring sessions for students at the university based on their learning needs-Assisted students with job and internship applications, edited resumes, cover letters, and practiced interview questions-Developed and designed future curriculum for a textbook/online platform for students in intermediate-advanced English -Attended workshops and conferences on curriculum design, teaching methodology, pedagogy and professional development -Offered informal classes during student strikes providing a space for intellectual discussion and creative expression-Served as a cultural ambassador on behalf of the U.S. State Department and promoted Fulbright values

-Facilitated writing process for 60+ students by working to improve papers and projects throughout the whole semester-Worked within various writing disciplines such as scientific writing, creative writing, etc. and with multimodal assignments -Met regularly with partner professors to review assignments and expectations and address key writing issues

-“I Feel So Basic”: Sexualizing the Exotic Immigrant on a Progressive Liberal Arts Campus-Conducted an 80+ page ethnographic study about the experiences and perceptions of immigrant women-Defended research proposal to an Institutional Review Board and presented findings to a public audience -Analyzed and synthesized existing theory and literature on ethnicity, race, gender, sexuality and migration -Interviewed 20 participants on potentially sensitive or difficult topics and transcribed and coded all interviews

-Organized educational events and facilitated conversations for the student body about diversity and social justice topics such as: voluntourism, myths surrounding ability, racism, etc. -Led seven or more interactive presentations ranging from 20 to about 150 students and faculty

-President: Managed executive board, team leader and general body meetings, delegated tasks, coordinated application process, planned leadership retreats, navigated trip logistics and developed a one-year strategic plan-Vice President: Supported President and Exec Board in critical decisions, initiated first mid-semester evaluation -Team Leader: Independently organized a service-education trip to Chicago for 12 students about foster care reform. Conducted pre and post trip meetings, educated team on the social topic, planned a school-wide movie screening

-Assisted the instructor in a Foundations of Psychology course for gifted high school students-Independently ran, taught and managed the classroom in evening sessions and worked individually with struggling students

-Supported, tutored and mentored 50+ children in reading and math at a local elementary school-Hosted one-on-one tutoring and small group sessions to review key concepts

-Coordinated various types of art projects at a summer camp for 400+ children and young adults with cancer and siblings-Planned and facilitated discussions about grief, self-care and interpersonal relationships and advocated for campers needs

-Organized and promoted bone marrow drives that entered over 680 potential donors into the registry -Established a club on campus with volunteers to raise public awareness using personally crafted promotional materials-Fundraised over $1,000 through social media campaigning and networking
