Everyone wants to make a difference in the world, but there are plenty of ways to make change. It has always been a passion of mine to advocate for those who do not have the voice to speak for themselves and that is why I have decided to apply for Law school this upcoming fall. As a lawyer, I would work to provide resources and support for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault; however, I am a long way from obtaining this goal just yet. As a recent graduate from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelor's of Arts in English, I am currently using my gap year to study for the LSAT and work full-time to support my academic goals. Although my job title now is only a server at T.G.I. Friday's, my managers have faith in my ability to help the restaurant's efficiency. I have always been someone who doesn't mind to take the lead and direct, or take on a heavier work load to help out others. I am also very organized and have love to work in groups to develop ideas. This is reflected in my past positions as a paid and volunteer tutor through UIC and the non-profit organization Horizons for Youth, as well as, a research assistant for a Dr. Jessica Shaw at UIC.Outside of my work life, I spend my free time indulging in books and creative writing. I love nature, so spending time outdoors is always a great way to unwind. My family and friends are also of great importance to me because not only do they push me to fulfill my dreams, they encourage me to be more open-minded and try things outside of my comfort zone. I am looking for any opportunities (volunteer and paid) to help develop my professional skills and prepare me for my future career, however, I am not limited to just positions in the legal field. I want an experience to challenge me to think outside the box and become a more well-rounded individual because that is how you truly make a difference in the world.
