I am a clinical social work intern at Theory & Method in South Reno. I use a bottom up approach along with attachment and schema informed modalities to address interpersonal issues, anxiety, depression and trauma. I am EMDR trained and use bilateral stimulation to engage clients in addressing core memories and negative cognitions.I am currently accepting clients: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/alexandra-gunter-reno-nv/1150660I graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University in 2021 and my Master of Social Work in 2023 from the University of Nevada, Reno. My professional and volunteer experience has offered me a unique skill set that has assisted in shaping my world view regarding mental health and trauma. For the eight years prior to entering the MSW program, I worked in a niche area of perinatal support as a postpartum doula. My scope of practice as a doula put me in a dynamic position in which I was able to offer physical, emotional and educational support to new parents, as well as coordinating with a team of licensed practitioners to expand care on an as needed basis. Additionally, I have extensive leadership experience having accomplished a number of tasks as the president of the Northern Nevada Breastfeeding Coalition, a 501c3 non profit. I have also spent time on advocacy and outreach and as a moderator during support groups in a private group setting. My accomplishments include the creation of programs to increase diversity within the field of breastfeeding and parental support, as well as facilitating communication between the community and local breastfeeding coalition. As an MSW student, I was able to branch out into a new demographic at a Skilled Nursing Facility and I used these talents to facilitate group sessions and enhance the wellbeing of the aging and elderly who live in nursing homes. My following position at the Washoe County Public Defenders Office allowed me to work with both family court clients and criminal court clients where I was able to contribute to holistic defense for individuals within the legal system. My focus was on those facing felonies for both violent and non violent crimes and I had the incredible honor to hold space for their stories through the creation of a biopsychosocial report to assist with mitigation.After graduating in May, 2023, I entered into a Clinical Social Work Intern position at Theory & Method. My current work allows me to facilitate healing and introspection with families and couples in a therapeutic setting.
