tdsbCREATES is a unique partnership of the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and the Toronto Arts Council, and Prologue Performing Arts.tdsbCREATES is a System-wide Celebration of Dance, Drama, Media and Visual Arts in TDSB schools across the city. Students and teachers partner with artists to explore their personal perspectives and connections with others and the world around them through dance, drama, film, media arts, photography, spoken word, or visual arts. The festival culminates in schools, communities, galleries, and performing arts venues around the city of Toronto.Prologue Performing Arts partners with the Toronto Arts Council and the TDSB, and manages the artist contribution of the program.Alex has the great pleasure of facilitating the artist piece of this puzzle - a roster of 70+ diverse Toronto artists. And matching them with 100+ teachers per semester, where they deliver fully subsidized arts programming across the city.

The programming coordinator plans, coordinates, and implements cultural, special events, and kitchen and performance space activities. Working closely with community groups and individuals to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality events and programmes promoting city values, and striving to be a community gathering place to nourish and inspire the Hamilton community.

Hamilton Craft Studios connects local community with the resources needed to create, providing an inclusive and inspiring space to practise their craft. The HCS 14,000 square foot multidisciplinary craft studios are located in a 1920's-era drawn wire factory in Hamilton, Ontario.Alex originally connected with the director team and volunteered time as a local champion/resource, but her role has happily evolved and now includes: consultation on a variety of internal operation areas of growth, large event support and volunteer coordination, and member support.

HCADT is an arts non-profit specializing in performing arts presentation. Alex led the re-launch of three flagship programs post-pandemic, with a focus on professional performing arts presentation. These includes: Dusk Dances Hamilton, the PASS concert series, and children’s arts education programs and artist-educator training initiatives.Her strategizing and authorship of 15+ grant applications, over her ten month tenure, raised over $100,000+. Alex is especially passionate about redeveloping the arts education program that has run since 1999, and for which she was previously an artist-educator. It is formally supported by HWDSB and Today’s Family.

Over the last three decades, Merrithew’s mind-body education programs have evolved based on the latest research in health and fitness. Alex was a senior instructor at the global headquarters in Toronto, known for her adaptability, kindness, and competence with complicated movement cases. She has worked with movers of all ages and abilities.Her work with the education department as an Instructor Trainer: Alex taught new instructors how to teach. Her role included: facilitating educational programs, administering exams, and mentoring a diverse community of instructors. Navigating both roles requires flexibility, exceptional time management (schedules are broken down by hourly, and even ten-minute, increments), ever adapting communication skills as required by the group/situation, and the ability to be both a team player and leader (working with a team of 20+ instructor colleagues, 60+ staff personnel, and acting as facilitator for 100’s of clients and students).
