About Alexandra Armstrong

Board-certified veterinary anatomic pathologist Ph.D. with expertise in diseases of bone and cartilage and animal models of orthopaedic diseases. Strong background in diagnostics, animal models of disease, and histology and immunohistochemistry. My Ph.D. work focused on the validation and refinement of animal models of developmental and degenerative bone and cartilage diseases (including osteochondrosis, Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, and osteoarthritis). I have experience with a variety of animal models of orthopedic disease, including rat fracture models, rat and rabbit bone defect models, goat cartilage defect models, piglet models of Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, and a variety of naturally occurring and induced models of osteochondrosis.My professional interests are translational pathology, developmental diseases of bone and cartilage, medical device pathology, diagnostic companion animal pathology, and teaching. I also coordinate the Systemic Pathology course in the 2nd year DVM curriculum at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine.
