I am a renowned expert for IBM Z Mainframe networks.Since the beginning of my career at the IBM Research and Development Labs in Böblingen I have been part of the IBM Z Mainframe development. I designed and implemented components like Millicode Firmware for the Cryptographic Coprocessor, the External Time Reference, First Error Data Capture, concurrent up- and downgrade functionality for memory and processors and concurrent processor book replacement, that contributed to IBM Z’s superior functionality, reliability and serviceability.My focus is on the IBM Z networking components, where I hold more than 12 patents. I have been the IBM Z HiperSockets Architect. HiperSockets is a high performance, low latency, virtual network between virtual servers, that is embedded into IBM Z's Firmware. I am also one of the architects of shared Memory Communications, a new high performance networking protocol for IBM Z. I have designed and developed the integration of IBM Z into the IBM Cloud infrastructure. So we can now offer Cloud services to IBM customers that are provided by the IBM Cloud, but at the same time are running on IBM Z and thus offering the traditional mainframe values like unprecedented security and scalability to these Cloud services. For more than 10 years I am a member of the IBM Z Networking Design Council, where new features and improvements for the IBM Z networking components are being developed. I am currently developing new features for the Linux on IBM Z network device driver and am a proud contributor to the Linux Open Source Stack. Thus making sure IBM Z is the premium platform for containerized services, analytics and mission critical enterprise applications for today and tomorrow.
