Senior Software Developer/AnalystThe University Of Texas At Austin Jun 2019 - Feb 2020Austin, Tx, UsAfter demonstrating my ability to succeed as a programmer, systems designer, technical lead, project lead, mentor, and instructor, I was promoted to the senior software developer role. In this role, I have completed software integrations with vendor products, led high-level strategic discussions about the technical progression of our team, and I have begun delving into new areas of development, such as building APIs and predictive modeling. -
Software Developer/AnalystThe University Of Texas At Austin Apr 2018 - Jun 2019Austin, Tx, UsSoftware Developer/Analyst is the generic developer position at UT Austin. In this role, I continued my work on a large project to create an online application for the Hazlewood tuition exemption (available to Texas veterans and their relatives - tell your friends!). This involved designing the database schema from scratch using Oracle, and building out the Python/Django code base to go with it. Our student-facing front-end had one peculiar requirement: It had to be completely functional without JavaScript, while also being mobile-friendly. While my colleague designed the staff side of the portal, I took on this challenge with the student side. In the end, it was beautifully functional with JavaScript/JQuery/Bootstrap, and fully accessible without. It was extremely well-received throughout campus, and revolutionized the student experience of applying for this tuition exemption. It also greatly reduced the time staff spent processing these applications - turn around for decisions went from 15 or more business days to 5-8 days max. Thanks to the massive success of this project, I became the lead of another large-scale project, similarly involving database design all the way to the front-end. To deliver this on a tight deadline, I coordinated a group of 5 developers, keeping us all on track to meet our goals, and ultimately delivered another successful product. At the end of the development cycle, I worked closely with my clients and users to lead training sessions and write robust documentation for this new system. I gained a positive reputation for being clear, concise, and above all, incredibly helpful and generous with my time. Of course, my clients were completely wonderful and deserve much of the credit for this :) Meanwhile, I joined a group of developers leading the push to implement more modern tools in our tech stack, and I became an active contributor to campus-wide training efforts that have been bringing new, promising developers into UT. -
Software DeveloperThe University Of Texas At Austin Oct 2017 - Apr 2018Austin, Tx, UsAfter completing training, I spent another six months in the role of Software Developer, the junior developer role at UT. I spent my time learning the ins-and-outs of reporting and batch processes (cron jobs), computing stats for system analysis using SAS, fixing bugs and performing maintenance on massive systems (Course Scheduling), and eventually joining a large project as the second technical lead.I soaked up all the knowledge thrown at me during this time, and grew an enormous amount. My supervisor saw this, and I was promoted to the next level of developer sooner than what was seen in many other departments (1 year). -
Software Developer TraineeThe University Of Texas At Austin Apr 2017 - Oct 2017Austin, Tx, UsFor a short time period, UT (the Office of the Registrar, to be specific) trained me in their tech stack: Natural/ADABAS for use with the mainframe, and Python/Django for web development. This ran like a boot camp or online course, but it was full-time, paid, and onsite. I needed to demonstrate time management, self-motivated learning, the ability to ask meaningful questions but also research answers on my own, and effective project structure and management. Throughout the training, my performance was evaluated by my supervisors and future peers, and I "graduated" with excellent feedback. -
Pharmacy ClerkAlan'S Pharmacy Oct 2016 - Mar 2017As a pharmacy clerk, I logged inventories, stocked shelves, served customers efficiently and pleasantly, and maintained the pharmacy computer systems to provide the most accurate and informed service possible. It was also my job to interact with medical professionals and insurance representatives, both through faxes and on the phone, to resolve issues with customers' prescriptions and find ways to overcome payment barriers. This job highlighted the complexities and struggles within our current health care system, many of which I hadn't been exposed to previously. In particular, the nuance of the cash price of medication sometimes being cheaper than the copay with insurance surprised me - I learned to triple-check pricing and read over our clients' plans to make sure we were always charging them the lowest amounts possible.

Undergraduate Research AssistantNoaa: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration May 2015 - Aug 2015Washington, Dc, UsThe SHAVE (Severe Hazards Analysis & Verification) project researched hail and flood data by gathering individual accounts of storm activity and comparing those details with actual radar output. My job involved monitoring radar feedback from across the contiguous United States, analyzing that information to identify the weather patterns relevant to our study, and then fluidly shifting our priorities based on when and where important storms were developing. My team had to work within tight time constraints (interviews conducted more than 30 minutes after the storm had passed were inadmissible due to the fickleness of memory) to obtain reliable data by calling residents and surveying them about their experiences. This work involved a delicate balance of picking houses in the best locations for an ideal data swath, building trust and an affable rapport during phone calls to encourage detailed responses, and bouncing back from any set-backs. -
Office InternOklahoma Able Tech May 2012 - Aug 2012OK ABLE Tech is an organization that aims to connect disabled and disadvantaged Oklahomans with the medical equipment they need. While working here, I maintained the online inventory system and reorganized physical inventory spaces to be more intuitive. I also created charts, fact sheets, and maps using Excel and GIMP.
