About Alex Brooks

I love content. Whether you call it copywriting, journalism or storytelling, it’s in my DNA. I’ve always been on a mission to deliver great words, pictures and videos that move people to action. Now I marry that with business and marketing solutions simple enough to work across online and offline. After years of journalism and magazine publishing, digital lit my creative fire in the noughties, giving me the most fun I could have sitting in an office chair. People called me things like ‘blogger’ or ‘mumpreneur’, which made me cringe*. I became Executive Editor of Kidspot in 2009, when it had a teeny tiny little audience. It’s still Australia’s biggest parenting website. It was acquired by News Corp for $48m in one of the biggest acquisitions of its day. I really liked that job. Mind you, the rapid growth each year was a little exhausting. Luckily, I sat down a lot. I’ve loved exploring the power of digital communications to engage and move people to action. I liked working in politics. I loved building new audiences and content strategies in digital market research and ad tech. I didn’t so much love being retrenched. C’est la vie. I then managed the content creation for CHOICE, which is probably Australia's most successful paid content business, generating more than $19m a year in subscriptions.I'm always inspired to learn more. I have a graduate certificate in data science and innovation from UTS. I’ve also worked with brilliant clients who understand the power of data to create content strategies that deliver the right business results. I’ve learned a lot about what the industry calls paid, owned and earned marketing communications activity. I call it “good content” though.
