About Alexandra Hicks

Hello! I’m Alexandra (she/her). I've recently graduated with a Master's of Science in Biological Chemistry from The University of Michigan, and am also a 2020 Neuroscience and Chemistry graduate from William & Mary. I just completed a fellowship researching neurochemistry at the National Institute of Drug Abuse, and I am currently looking for neuroscience related research positions in order to gain more scientific experience. Eventually, I plan to pursue PhD programs in Neuroscience.Academically, I am most interested in Neuropharmacology, Structural Chemistry, Molecular Genetics, Molecular Neuroscience, & Systems Neuroscience. I see a great need for more research to be done on the brain abnormalities associated with psychiatric illness, both as a means to develop more effective treatment options, and as a means to destigmatize mental illness through increased scientific literacy. After completing my formal education, I plan to work as a college professor to lead research projects and share my passion for neuroscience with others. In my free time, I am an accomplished painter (some of my work can be found at alexhicksart.com), and I enjoy hiking and reading horror novels.
