Profile bio

About Alexandra Smith

I'm a current student at UBC Vancouver working toward a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Arts and a Master of Business Management. In my specialized dual degree program, I explore the ethical considerations of corporations in resource distribution, with a strong focus on how nations and organizations should manage the distribution of resources in the face of climate-induced migration. I am passionate about addressing the complex challenges at the intersection of environmental sustainability, ethical resource allocation, and the human impact of climate change. After winning the US National Speech and Debate Tournament's Congressional House in 2021, I founded a debate company: How To Congress LLC. How To Congress operated for three years providing low-cost (and free) lessons, resources, and virtual guides for high school debaters across the US. Shortly after starting this company, I began working as a tournament director with National Online Forensics, a California-based company that runs online synchronous and asynchronous tournaments for students around the world. I am grateful for my continued involvement in the forensics community and am continually amazed by the creativity and skill of the generation behind me. In the future, I aspire to leverage my strong written and verbal communication skills to promote ethical resource development/distribution. I am interested in global institutions, government positions, and multinational corporations. I feel that development doesn't need to come at the expense of human values, and hope to work alongside professionals motivated by environmental preservation and consideration of Indigenous land use.As an empathetic leader, I'm deeply passionate about effective altruism, community building, environmentalism, and exploring ways for organizations to uplift and empower people globally.Let's connect! Feel free to add me on LinkedIn, or email me: alexandralouise203@gmail.com
