Research Associate, New Materials And ProcessesCorning Incorporated Oct 2020 - Jun 2024Corning, New York, UsBuilding and leading a team of scientists to develop materials and processes for climate change solutions. We are innovating in spaces that have significant impact on lowering GHG emissions and take advantage of Corning's competencies. -
Senior Research Scientist, Glass ResearchCorning Incorporated Apr 2019 - Oct 2020Corning, New York, Us -
Research Scientist, Glass ResearchCorning Incorporated Aug 2018 - Apr 2019Corning, New York, UsI currently work in Glass Research inventing new glasses and glass ceramics for display and cover glass applications. My research focuses on developing composition-based models and understanding of fundamental glass properties and phenomena, such as stress and structural relaxation, scattering, diffusivity, liquidus, liquidus viscosity, etc. for Corning Optical Communications (COC, optical fiber), Corning Display Technologies (display glass), and Corning Specialty Materials (cover glass). I collaborate with a broad network of scientists, engineers, and technicians across businesses within Corning and work on stage 1, fundamental research projects through stage 3 projects that are in the process of transfer to manufacturing. Within COC, I am the team leader for the research side of a new glass for fiber applications. -
Research Scientist, Commercial Technologies (Corning Display Technologies)Corning Incorporated Jan 2018 - Aug 2018Corning, New York, UsIn my third rotation, I worked in Commercial Technologies as a liaison between the research and development teams and the customer-facing commercial group in the design of a new display glass for Corning Display Technologies. -
Research Scientist, Applied Research & Development (Corning Optical Communications)Corning Incorporated Jul 2017 - Jan 2018Corning, New York, UsMy second rotation within Corning was in Optical Fiber Development. In this role, I designed and conducted experiments to gain mechanistic understanding of the materials that are in the process of being transferred from research to manufacturing for new fiber products. -
Research Scientist, Glass ResearchCorning Incorporated Jul 2016 - Jul 2017Corning, New York, UsAs a member of the Division of Science & Technology's rotation program for new hire scientists, I worked in Glass Research inventing novel glasses and transparent glass ceramics while developing the fundamental understanding of the materials I was designing. I worked across divisions and departments within Corning to accomplish these goals and have collaborated with a diverse cross section of the company - diverse in both technical backgrounds as well as in the stage of innovation from basic research to development to manufacturing. While this role is no longer my main focus, I continue to conduct glass research and consult on glass ceramics projects. -
Graduate Research And Teaching AssistantMassachusetts Institute Of Technology Sep 2011 - Jun 2016Cambridge, Ma, UsMy PhD work, conducted with Professor Timothy Grove in the MIT Experimental Petrology Laboratory of the Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences, aimed to constrain hydrous petrologic processes in the mantle wedge at subduction zones. I studied mantle melting, melt-rock reaction, and the influence of water on the generation of magmas in the shallow mantle. Additionally, I worked to quantify H2O solubility in basalt at high pressure, a project that was conducted in collaboration with Dr. Glenn Gaetani at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. To study these high pressure, high temperature processes within the Earth, I used piston cylinder experiments as well as novel analytical techniques for measuring volatiles. While my primary focus was on subduction zone magmatism, the MIT EAPS graduate program also allowed me to pursue an interest in paleoclimate. Using trace element profiles in speleothems, I worked with Professor David McGee and fellow graduate student Elena Steponaitis to understand the paleohydrology and paleoclimate in the US great basin since the last glacial maximum. In addition to research, I was a teaching assistant and taught the laboratory portions of two classes: 1) Petrology and 2) the Structure of Earth's Materials. -
Undergraduate ResearcherYale University Apr 2009 - May 2011New Haven, Ct, Us-Derived, coded, and implemented a finite-element multi-phase, multi-element diffusion model in MATLAB. -Mounted, polished, and analyzed (by EPMA) mantle xenoliths from Kimberley, South Africa.-Conducted a magnetostratigraphic study in the Yale Paleomagnetic Laboratory and developed a timeline for a hominid evolution study. This work gave me the opportunity to see a research project through from start to finish: from sample preparation to thermal demagnetization and measurement using a cryogenic DC-SQuID magnetometer to write up and presentation of the project at the Geological Society of America Fall Meeting. -
Chemistry TutorYale University 2009 - 2011New Haven, Ct, UsTutored Yale University students in chemistry. -
Life Sciences InternshipOmsi Jun 2008 - Aug 2008Portland, Oregon, UsInterned at the Oregon Museum of Science & Industry in the life sciences department. Conducted an independent research project and was responsible for the taking care of the animals in the laboratory as well as teaching museum goers about them. -
