Working on a rapidly growing mobile game, I was responsible for:- Introducing a data-driven culture- End-to-end ML: researching and implementing machine learning algorithms that enabled a data-driven game development:unsupervised clustering (k-means), text mining,anomaly detection (binary logistic regression),causal impact;- Business intelligence: defining KPIs, delivering actionable insights;- Data engineering: working together with the backend team to design and implement an in-house big data collection and analysis platform; defining suitable formats and locations for data storage and monitoring data integrity.

As GamesLab Manager I had a triple role that comprised (1) Games User Researcher, (2) Data Scientist, and (3) Team & Lab Manager.As Games User Researcher, I was responsible for:- Working closely with development teams and business stakeholders to understand the playtesting needs of a project at each stage during the development process;- Designing bespoke research plans that leverage game telemetry, biometrics, and qualitative data to gain objective insights into player in-game behaviour;- Recruiting specific player profiles and conducting playtests together with the research team;- Compiling playtest reports for stakeholders, containing actionable information that helped guide the development process;- Keeping up to date with the field of Game User Research and constantly improving our research methodologies and services;- Evangelising the importance of Games User Research throughout the company via presentations and workshops.As Data Scientist, I was responsible for:- Working closely with the development and online services teams to help define key performance indicators and in-game telemetry events to be captured;- Using data mining and statistical techniques to convert captured data into meaningful, communicable, and actionable information;- Providing insights into a wide array of game-related areas, including in-game player behaviour, game performance, matchmaking trends etc.- Creating reports/interactive dashboards (tool of choice: R Shiny) targeted at a wide range of departments, from core technical teams to high-level stakeholders.As Team & Lab Manager, I was responsible for:- Setting up the lab from scratch and maintaining it (e.g. interior design, furniture, hardware, software);- Managing the lab budget;- Leading, teaching, and training a small team;- Collaborate with local institutions to promote GamesLab, e.g. GamesLab in the Wire Magazine http://confetti.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Online-Spring-Wire.pdf

As a Junior Data Scientist at Dambuster Studios, I had a dual role that comprised both Data Science and Data Engineering.As part of the Data Science portion of the role, I was responsible for:- Internally evangelising the benefits of telemetry/data collection and analysis- Using data mining and statistical techniques to convert captured data into meaningful, communicable, and actionable information- Providing insights into how players are engaging and interacting with our games- Creating reports, interactive dashboards, and visualisations targeted at a wide range of departments, from core technical teams to high-level stakeholders.For the Data Engineering portion of the role, I developed the telemetry/data pipeline for Homefront: The Revolution, in collaboration with the online tech team. My responsibilities included:- Selecting appropriate tools and technology, including Python, RabbitMQ, ElasticSearch/Kibana, MySQL, and R- Defining suitable formats and locations for data storage- Implementing worker processes to transform and store incoming raw data- Administering databases, primarily ElasticSearch and MySQL, in the production environment- Maintaining and further developing an in-house Django application used to store and browse recorded telemetry.
