My earliest memories of my mother are not of this world. They exist as images of Middle Earth and Narnia scrawling across the back of my eyelids, conjured by her mature, even tone of voice. When we read alternating chapters to each other, I was frustrated that my speech could not reach the depths of her resonance. This motivated me to discover the dimensions my voice held. In my youth, I took to singing, training with acclaimed vocal coach Shelley Rae Speck. Competing against high school Comedy Sportz teams, improv opened me up to the joys of character work. Years later, after a performance with my own troupe, a member of the audience recruited me to his DnD campaign, where I played a cheeky halfling rogue and a sullen half-orc paladin. Meanwhile, I attended Toastmasters meetings to wield my voice as a measure of legitimacy. All this time, voice acting had served the greater cause of content. On the heels of winning first place at a district contest, a fellow Toastmaster approached me to teach public speaking to children with Leaders of Tomorrow Academy and I realized my voice itself had substance. Now, as I return to narration, my daughter shares my joy when I "do the voices." When I take on your project, I aspire to bring your words to life! And to deliver a performance that inspires listeners to find their voices.
