I am doing my Ph.D. on Improving Recent Self-Supervised Visual Representation Learning methods. More generally, My Research Aspires to Reduce Shortcut Learning, which Limits the Generalization and Robustness Capacity of Machine Learning, thus Restricting the Confidence we can put in such Algorithms.My First Contribution resulted in Two Papers (one is Published, and the other is still Under Revision) and proposed an Improvement to Invariance-based Instance Discrimination methods via an Equivariance task.I am now at the beginning of a Second Contribution which consists in studying how to Evaluate and Reduce Shortcut Learning in Self-Supervised Representation Learning approaches to find ways to Improve these Methods.

At the end of my Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence, I did a Research Internship at LIRIS, a Computer Science Laboratory in Lyon (France). During this experience, I studied how Sensori-Motor Theories could benefit Deep Learning of Representations.It resulted in Two main Contributions (the first of which led me to the Publication of a Scientific Paper as a First Author):• Highlighting the Importance of Action in Deep Learning models of Visual Perception using an architecture performing Visual Saccades (VAE, LSTM);• Proposed Curiosity-based approach to Active Visual Learning and Perception.Moreover, it allowed me to access the Jean Zay Computing Center to perform High-Performance Computing, which involved a high level of Parallelization, Optimization, and Profiling of my code.

The trust I was given enabled me to fully express my technical skills and my ability to solve problems innovatively, which allowed me, despite the duration of this experience, to work on many diverse and exciting tasks and projects:• Logo Detection with only One Initial Sample per brand using Deep Learning (Faster-RCNN/YOLO v3 and a Pseudo-Label Bootstrapping training scheme);• Implementation of a Toolkit with Many Insight Methods to Study and Explain what Features were Learned by the Convolutional Neural Networks solutions;• Exploration of Ensemble Model solutions to Combine a Convolutional Neural Network and a Keypoint-based Computer Vision Approach;• Development of a Pipeline for Evaluating the Robustness of Image Classifiers before Deployment;• Improvement of a hand-crafted Object Segmentation Algorithm relying on OpenCV, as well as Manipulation of a Deep Learning Object Segmentation Method (Mask RCNN);• Automatised Blur Detection to Filter out Blurry Samples from Image Datasets;• Proposed an Automatic Method for Removing Duplicate Images in a Dataset with Homothety Resilience.
