lexandre H. Pinto, also known as Alex Pinto, is an Assistant Professor at Manhattan College, in NYC (NY), in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry since Fall 2019. There, he leads a research group with undergraduate students focused on the preparation of nanomaterials and their application in Green Chemistry related subjects, such as: wastewater remediation through solid-liquid adsorption, photocatalysis, and fossil fuel desulfurization. His group has consistently published in peer-reviewed journals and presented posters and talks in national and international conferences. Throughout his career, Dr Pinto has accumulated experience working with many spectroscopy, microscopy, and diffraction techniques, such as infrared, UV-vis, and Raman Spectroscopies, X-Ray Diffraction, Scanning, and Transmission Electron Microscopies. Among the application areas, he has expertise I can remark materials for solar cells, materials for wastewater treatment, solid-liquid adsorption kinetics, chemical education, and course development for chemical education. Among the accolades receive in his career, are the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund (ACS-PRF), from 2021 to 2023, and the inclusion in the Emerging Investigators Series of the journal Environmental Science: Water Research and Technology from Royal Society of Chemistry. As quoted from the journal webpage the Emerging Investigator Series: "It highlights up-and-coming scientists in the early stages of their independent careers, who have been identified as having the potential to influence future directions in the field" Before starting his position at Manhattan College, Dr Pinto worked for two years as a Postdoctoral Faculty Member at Ithaca College (Ithaca - NY, 2017-2019), where he started his independent teaching and research career. Dr Pinto obtained his PhD in Chemistry from University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, being advised by Prof. R Lee Penn, PhD, in 2017. He also has a Master Degree in Physical Chemistry from Universidade Federal de Sao Carlos (2012), and a BSc in Chemistry from the same University (2010), in both degrees he performed research advised by Prof. Emerson R. Camargo. Besides his research and teaching skills, Dr Pinto is also a writer and public speaker, being open for public talks and book chapter collaborations in topics related to chemistry, chemistry of materials, water remediation, and nanotechnology.
