As a senior student-athlete at St. Cloud State University, pursuing dental hygiene is becoming more serious. My greatest satisfaction comes from helping others while making a difference in the lives of those in my community. I have yet to experience any hands on interactions in the dental field, but I had the opportunity to shadow at a local dentist office in my hometown of Wasilla, Alaska. After my shadowing opportunity, I knew dental hygiene was what I want as my chosen career. My ability to listen and connect with others gives me the opportunity to assess their needs and help them to reach the best oral health possible. From my prior knowledge about this field of work, dental hygiene is a fairly routine job which I believe fits me in many ways. I am someone that loves knowing that I am good at what I do, and I feel that doing cleanings and exams every single day will give me the ability to become the best at my job. I hope to one day work in a dental office and have patients request me for their cleanings because I will know I am making a difference and doing my job well based on the fact that people want me over others. My ultimate goal is to work in a fun, fast paced environment with people that love their jobs and making a difference in people's lives as much as I do!
