About Alex Mcdonnell
In the time I’ve worked in advertising, broadcast, and production, I've gathered a wide knowledge of all the moving parts that make up the complicated machine which takes a brief and turns it into a compelling piece of authentic content. I started off making tea in the 90’s, trained as an editor, spent more than a decade in that role (still my first love), then moved into creative/producing/directing/exec producing and creative direction. I wrote a boat-load of copy en route and discovered that coming up with ideas is where it's at, enjoyment-wise.Over the years I've thought up, written, pitched, scripted, edited, produced, directed, occasionally shot and executive produced for a wide gamut of clients, from automotive to FMCG and most things in-between.Since 2019, I've been creative director at The Creative Engagement Group, working across our service lines to deliver strategic creative, brand and product positioning, campaigns, and content for global clients like Capgemini, Lloyds Banking Group, GSK and Anglo American.There are few challenges that haven’t sweatily woken me up in the middle of the night over the years, so occasionally I can come in quite handy. Plus, I can almost always find a way to get it done.
