As a PhD student at the Institute for Resource, Environment and Sustainability I studied risk perceptions and decision-making related to multi-hazards risks.My research interests focused on understanding how people perceive risks and make risk management decisions associated with natural hazards. My work applied this to risk perceptions in multi-hazard environments (flooding, landslides, and earthquakes) and how risk perceptions influence risk management decisions in the BC maritime transportation system. My work took an interdisciplinary approach that includes expert elicitation, stakeholder engagement, and a systems perspective.My research was supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), Marine Environmental Observation Prediction and Response Network (MEOPAR), UBC Public Scholars Initiative, and the Liu Institute for Global Issues. I have worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in: Communicating Science, Geography, Modernity and Globalization, First-Year Seminar in Science, Natural Events & Human Disasters, and Computer Cartography: Principles and Design.I served the UBC community as an elected graduate student representative to the UBC Vancouver Senate (2018-2020).

I had the opportunity to visit Japan to begin research on multi-natural hazard risk perceptions.

My research focused on assessing flood risk perceptions and support for risk management activities in the city of Calgary following the 2013 flood.I was also a Graduate Teaching Assistant (Natural Events and Human Disasters) and a Graduate Research Assistant to a project focusing on risk-taking in the finance sector.

Analyzed and compared Canadian and International Emergency Management and Business Continuity Standards, updated corporate governance documents for the Business Continuity Program, and demonstrated analytical skills through writing the Emergency Communication Plan for the Enterprise Risk Management group.

Worked to upgrade and install new technology in each of the UHN Incident Command Centre's, this involved working with the Project Manager to maintain communication with all partners and encourage project progress. Developed a Hazard Vulnerability Analysis survey of hospital risks and preparedness along with updating a UHN wide Emergency Contact List.
