Director, Corporate And Foundation Partnerships
At World Learning, I worked with private sector and institutional partners to source funding for global educational and exchange programs. l led a team that wrote and managed grant proposals for exchange programs for virtual, hybrid, and in-person student exchanges for World Learning and the School for International Training and for global education programs.
Assistant Director, Institute For The Global Entrepreneur
The Institute for the Global Entrepreneur (IGE) is a formal collaboration between the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering and the Rady School of Management, providing entrepreneurial education and services to UC San Diego students, faculty, alumni, staff, and affiliates, through innovative programs and partnerships. IGE assists startup teams by providing access to best-in-class resources, including: entrepreneurial education and knowledge development to help translate ideas from concept to market, mentorship from subject matter experts and fellow startup founders, and startup business services to help founders further develop their ideas, prototypes, designs, and businesses. Programs include Technology and Business Accelerators, and the National Science Foundation Innovation Corps (I-Corps) program focusing on customer discovery and product-market fit. IGE serves startups and partners from across the UC San Diego campus, including the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the School of Medicine, plus global university and economic development partners. As Assistant Director, I created strategic frameworks for IGE programs and accelerators, advised entrepreneurs on options for advancing and commercializing projects from concept to market, and developed our global partnership pipeline with corporate, investor, foundation, and startup communities. In this role, I served as deputy to IGE Executive Director, and worked directly with faculty, administration, and campus teams on strategic priorities. In March 2020, we launched IGE's MedTech Accelerator with 15 startup teams. To respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and continue providing IGE's curriculum and services, I directed a pivot to remote program delivery by creating online lesson plans and resources for facilitators and mentors.
Director Of Business Development
As the Director of Business Development, I created collaborative opportunities for businesses and organizations to engage with the UC Davis Graduate School of Management (GSM). I utilized diverse and technology-driven methods to build and maintain professional relationships, in turn creating strategic partnerships for companies to work with the GSM through a variety of modalities including: short and long term projects, internships, hiring pipelines, information sessions and networking events, case competitions, and other innovative ways of connecting businesses, students, and faculty. In addition to building corporate relationships and identifying areas of mutual interest for collaboration, I worked directly with MBA, Master's of Professional Accountancy, and Master of Science, Business Analytics students to optimize their marketability and professional opportunities. For example, I designed an interactive workshop that facilitates student-led creation of integrated, localized maps of relevant and geo-specific industry sectors, companies and organizations; associated trade groups and professional societies; infrastructure considerations and commuting options; overlays of personal and professional networks; and deeper dives into job categories and other sources related to developing subject matter expertise. I also facilitated GSM student workshops including: interviewing, negotiation, and finding global opportunities.
Country Manager, Cambodia, Usaid Connecting The Mekong Through Education And Training (Usaid Comet)
USAID's Connecting the Mekong through Education and Training (USAID COMET) project was a five-year, $12.4M workforce development program in the Lower Mekong countries of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam designed to improve youth employment with market-driven skills. I was a USAID COMET Fellow and Country Manager in Cambodia for one year, where I mentored administrators and instructors, cultivated leaders, and provided support for training of trainers. I regularly provided technical assistance to instructors on work-readiness skills, work-based learning, and industry partnerships. I also supported project monitoring and evaluation processes for students, employers, industry groups, and institutions. By building relationships and cultivating networks, I created partnerships for universities with private companies, innovation labs, and entrepreneur challenges. I developed partnerships with U.S. universities and multinational, regional, and local businesses and NGOs. As a result of a partnership I created for USAID COMET and the City of Austin, TX, startup teams from the U.S. Department of State's Young Southeast Asian Leadership Initiative World of Food Innovation Challenge, and USAID COMET's corporate partners met with the Mayor of Austin to talk about innovation and youth work-readiness skills, met with local business leaders, and attended SXSW.To help create more innovation opportunities for students, I conceptualized and successfully pitched the creation of an innovation center at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), the country's premier engineering university. To fund the center, I secured a multi-year partnership with a regional mobile operator. I also planned and executed a study trip of leading U.S. academic and science libraries to help facilitate the design and management of ITC's new library. I also created and delivered presentations for U.S. and local government officials, industry partners, and education conferences.
Managing Director
To more fully utilize my communications, technology, and education background, I launched a consulting service focused on B2B client development and partnerships, communications, and work-readiness skills training. Simultaneously, from 2010 to 2013, I was a Global Leadership Institute Fellow at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and successfully completed my Master's degree in international political economy from UCSD.By applying knowledge and frameworks that I gained through my UCSD coursework and independent projects, I developed and implemented an information communications technology training program in Cambodia. To accomplish this, I convened NGO reps, school administrators, and corporate partners; wrote lesson modules, plans, and rubrics; trained trainers; and raised funds for program development in Cambodia. In 2016, the program successfully trained two Cambodian instructors and launched as an after school program to two cohorts of 60 students. The program continues under Cambodian leadership and administration. Consulting engagements included a CEM/CRM firm and a media/ telecom data & research company, to which I provided services including: creating and delivering client pitches; developing new partnerships and pipelines; and writing feature articles and press releases.
