Expatriated to work for Itau USA Asset Management in New York to found and co-manage Itaú Latin America Long Short Strategy, which had more than $250 million in assets under management as of year-end 2013. Strategy outperformed Eureka Hedge Latam Offshore Long Short index by approximately 900bp since its April 2012 inception, with substantially lower volatility than the index. Local market fund in Brazil whose only investment was this offshore strategy delivered consistent performance of 15-20% above Brazilian SELIC (domestic overnight rate). The SELIC target rate gradually increased from 7.25% p.a. to 11% p.a. from 2011 to 2014. Senior management of the asset management division decided to transfer management of this strategy to the São Paulo headquarters from New York in April 2014, in spite of its strong performance. There were substantial changes in the leadership of the asset management division in 2013, with the arrival of a new CEO and the departure of the previous CIO.

Hired and managed the first equity analyst team for the absolute return strategies division, which covered all sectors in Brazilian equity market. The team produced in-depth research of corporate IPOs and follow-ons in 2010 and 2011, when the equity capital issuance market was extremely active.

Participated upon invitation in rating committees for sovereigns and financial institutions. Lead project to review policy for sovereign ceilings for corporate ratings in emerging markets.

Also contributed equity long-short ideas to the hedge fund team. Managed exclusive and mutual funds for clients of the private bank and published extensive reports on a monthly basis with our best ideas for growth, value and dividend stocks.

Created by-laws and other documents necessary to open a non-profit organization in Brazil. Planned inaugural event and dozens of additional events, all focused on facets of investing important to the continuing education of CFA charter holders.

Launched and managed equity funds at Invesco's Sao Paulo investment management subsidiary, with strong performance vs. Ibovespa benchmark. Successfully generated alpha while being responsible for all trading and reserach for the fund. Invesco suddenly decided to close its operations in Brazil in 2002 and the entire portfolio management team was laid off in December 2001.

Worked on a team with sector analysts from Duff & Phelps Credit Ratings Company (now Fitch Ratings), which was SR Rating's joint venture partner.
