* Led team planning efforts for 2024, paired with leadership stakeholders to understand company priorities and developed a roadmap to execute* Built a fully automated Container image build system, leveraging Bazel, apko, and more - removing a process that was previously gated by an engineer performing manual builds of images.* Container image builds now being produced nightly, offering increased security posture as well as enforcing more rapid testing and iteration using up-to-date system libraries and dependencies.* Further developed a process to trigger a new Container image build within 15 minutes of a CVE/security vulnerability being announced and patched upstream, to the image being consumable by any engineer within the company.* Deployed internal code search tool to replace SourceGraph. I was able to research, deploy and integrate the system within 1 week. Annual cost savings: $150,000+* Performed Infrastructure analysis of existing cloud providers and current usages, leading to adjustments in fleet deployments. Annual cost savings: $120,000+ annually.* Led Go version upgrade efforts, starting at Go 1.17 - now to Go 1.21* Upgraded several core Bazel toolchains in a monorepository which were previously blocking security/development efforts for various teams.* Migrated several applications from singleton instances into Kubernetes via Helm charts.* Wrote a CI metrics exporter (Golang) to a custom TimestreamDB endpoint, offering additional metrics not provided by GitLab. These metrics are now used to make business-critical decisions around CI performance.* Provide SME insight around CI best practices, GitLab oddities, and other DevOps matters.* Contributed several changes upstream which improved developer quality of life: * added ability to toggle various probes within the AutoDevOps Helm chart (gitlab) * added support for ubuntu 24.04 in rules_distroless

Site Reliability Engineer Ii

Hawthorne, California, Us

I was an SRE on the Software Delivery Engineering team. Kubernetes and CI/CD was the name of the game. In this role, I was responsible for the design and implementation of Helm charts for internal applications, as well as supporting mechanisms for quickly bootstrapping a vanilla Kubernetes cluster and deploying any backing services in the cluster(s) for the internal applications.Noteworthy accomplishments:* Squad Lead for a Bazel Cache revitalization project. This cache was used by all software engineers at the company, and clusters regularly exceeded 100Gb/s in traffic during business hours. This project was done leveraging Kubernetes, Helm, and other best practices around modern cluster deployment mechanisms. * Added client-side page load metrics to a custom application via JavaScript. This was used to analyze things such as TTFB, FCP, and other vial application performance metrics.* Optimized Terraform strategy around CI workers to unify a strategy that did not rely on DRY principles. This vastly improved the ability to redeploy CI workers and eventually led to the capability of adding 250+ workers with fewer than 20 lines of code.Further of note:* Helped further secure dragon* Met with the Crew-3 astronauts while getting froyo* Watched 4 crewed launches outside of mission control (including Crew-3)* Participated in the first landing of Starship, celebrating with coworkers virtually amid a pandemic* Earned 52 mission patches* Talked to Jared Isaacman (inspiration4) for several minutes, asking stupid questions along the way* Sped up services used by software engineers at the company* Added code to repositories used to launch rockets, support life on spacecraft, and maintain the worlds largest satellite constellationSome buzzwords: Docker, Kubernetes, Bazel, Python, Bash, CI/CD, Project Management, Operations Support, Observability, Monitoring

Mit Covid-19 Challenge: Africa Takes On Covid-19

Collaborated with several other individuals around the world to contribute to the COVID-19 pandemic support effort, specifically in Africa. Our approach was to provide a real-time SMS service, providing both an SMS-based symptom checker as well as a wait timer in hospitals nearby (determined by telephone number and local area code mappings.) Unfortunately, we were not selected as the winner of this project - however a team with similar goals did and conferred with us on features we had implemented. The described work was used to help improve the lives of those impacted by COVID-19 in Africa.
