Alex first started as a Summer Intern in the summer of 2009. Alex, a rising Junior at the time, was selected from a pool of over ninety highly qualified applicants, most of them a year senior to him. His maturity, confidence, and honesty were obvious to me very soon during the first few minutes of the interview. He made the decision to hire him the easiest professional decision that I’ve ever had to make. And he did not disappoint one bit. The internship was designed to be very challenging with deliverables stretching far beyond that of a standard Finance internship, straddling both Finance and Development. While initially lacking the core skill sets of the latter, he quickly made up for lost time and experience. We were in the process of totally revamping our internal reporting engine – a forecasting model that was built on regression analysis-driven coefficient tables and tied in data sources from five different servers. Alex quickly learned Visual Basic and SQL and interfaced with the Development completely on his own and took full ownership of the project. This example of leadership and initiative helped the team in immeasurable ways, allowing a time-limited staff to reach unthinkable heights in both productivity and performance. A very humble young man with a very quiet strength, his efforts quickly became recognized company-wide. Because of the integral role he took on during his summer internship, he was offered an unprecedented fall and spring internship to stay on with the Finance team and continue his development. Alex was now a full-fledged member of the team and a vital cog in our day to day functions. Alex performed above the level that I would expect a Senior Analyst to be and did this all within twenty hours a week. I grew very close to Alex over his time at IAC as he went from being a star intern, to a mentee, to a close friend."
