I’ve been a construction professional my entire career. But I became an entrepreneur in 2009 when I organized a leveraged buyout of Greymane and Commercial Office Environments.I’ve been on a roller coaster ever since!My technical and business education gave me the confidence to take that challenge on, but nothing could have prepared me for the steep and costly learning curve of becoming a new leader and owner of two established businesses. Since then we’ve acquired another business, started and then wound up another, formed a joint venture company to tackle a large project, and allowed a retail division to collapse.It took me a while, but I eventually realized that I wasn’t really running companies, I was managing people. Finding the right people who can align with a set of core values and then work together is the magic sauce of business!I enjoy my role as a leader; attracting the right people to the right roles, getting them excited about our future, then playing the role of coxswain to get everyone rowing in unison and the same direction.
