Profile bio

About Alexandra Eicher

I am a developmental biologist currently working as a postdoctoral research fellow in Dr. Olivier Pourquie's lab at Brigham and Women's Hospital. I completed my Ph.D. in Molecular and Developmental Biology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) and my B.S. in Biochemical Engineering at the University of New Hampshire. My undergraduate research consisted of several bioengineering projects that honed my ability to mathematically model biological processes and design novel tools to better study intricate biology. My Ph.D. work in Dr. James Wells’ lab at CCHMC applied my engineering and design skills to the field of translational and regenerative medicine. My goal was to engineer novel human model systems, derived from pluripotent stem cells, to study the development and dysfunction of the enteric nervous system (ENS). My broader research interests involve understanding how mechanical forces of development control not only collective cellular migration and morphogenesis but also downstream transcriptional regulation. During my post-doctoral training, I plan to learn computational modeling skills that I can use to investigate these biophysical forces on systems biology level.

Listed skills include Microsoft Office, Leadership Development, Robert'S Rules Of Order, Research, and 16 others.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Current

Boston, Massachusetts, United States

Currently a member of Dr. Olivier Pourquié's lab at BWH

Oct 2021 - Present

Ph.D. Candidate In Molecular And Developmental Biology

Cincinnati, OH

As a member of Dr. James Wells' lab at CCHMC, I engineered novel human model systems from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) to study co-assembly and molecular roles of cell types from different lineages.

Jul 2015 - Oct 2021

Bioprocess Research Associate

Lebanon, NH

I worked with a team to develop processes that convert biomass into fuels and chemicals using proprietary organisms. To study this I assembled and operated small scale fermentations in 24, 48, and 96 deep-well plates, 10 mL mini vials, and 250 mL shake flasks.

Jun 2013 - May 2015

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Dr. Adam St. Jean'S Biomedical Engineering Laboratory

University Of New Hampshire

I focused on the adhesion properties of singular and aggregate rolling cancer cells to the cell adhesion molecule, E-selectin. Since cancer cells can metastasize to other locations in the body by circulating through the blood stream and attaching to and penetrating through the walls of blood vessels, we wanted to better understand their ability to flow.

Jan 2013 - May 2013

Student Body Vice President

Unh Student Senate

Durham, NH

As Student Body Vice President, I represented the entire undergraduate student body on the floor of Student Senate and in other meetings with university administrators.

Aug 2012 - May 2013

Research Assistant

Dr. Nivedita Gupta'S Microfluidic And Interfacial Flows Laboratory

Kingsbury Hall, University Of New Hampshire

I studied the deformation and break up of drops and capsules within two-phase liquid flow in custom-made microfluidic channels of varying lengths and geometries. The phenomenon of confined fluid flow is of great practical importance in a variety of natural and physical two-phase liquid flow, such as the flow of blood cells in capillaries. The major.

Jun 2012 - Nov 2012

Tutor

Unh Mathematics Center

Durham, NH

I helped university students to understand Finite Mathematics, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I, and Calculus II as well as to improve their general study habits.

Sep 2010 - May 2012

Community Assistant

Unh Department Of Housing

Adams Tower West, Durham, NH

I helped to develop and maintain an overall positive living and learning environment for the residents of Adams Tower West, an on-campus residence hall of the University of New Hampshire. My goal was to provide residents with a safe community that was conducive to academic success and personal development.

Aug 2010 - May 2011

Research Assistant

Dr. Qing Song'S Biomedical Engineering Laboratory

Durham, NH

I was awarded a summer fellowship from the Hamel Center for Undergraduate Research at UNH through the Research Experience and Apprenticeship Program (REAP) for highly motivated, first-year students in the Honors Program. Our goal was to design innovative, integrated, and quantitative live single-cell microarrays that could, through immunofluorescent.
