I’ve wanted to grow up to be a mathematician since I was 3 years old. The logic of numbers has always fascinated me, even when I was only playing with shapes and memorizing digits of pi. After being accepted to Rice University with a full-ride QuestBridge National College Match scholarship, declaring my major was one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever made.During my time at Rice, I learned as many sides to math as I could: computer science, statistics, physics, accounting, and operations research, to name a few. I quickly discovered the benefits of using my natural computer fluency to solve math problems, so I chose Computational and Applied Mathematics as my minor and learned to apply Python, MATLAB, and R towards my objectives. This came in handy when I spent a year as a paid student researcher. I studied the fascinating interplay between graph theory and abstract algebra, and used MATLAB to compute and visualize my results.Now that I’ve completed my degree, I'm happily putting my skills to work as a data analyst at Jewelry Television, where I use mathematical reasoning to recommend new company policies based on past performance data. Whether the application be simple or complex, any opportunity to work with numerical problem solving is a natural fit for me.
