I am extremely happy in my current spot at Hackster, creating livestreams and recorded videos: DIY hardware news, interviews with tech badasses, tutorials, and introductions to new tools for building IoT technology. I get to learn something new every day, and to connect with people who care about building tech that truly helps us shape a better world.

A freelance hardware prototyping group, ProtoTank consists of four makers who play with cutting-edge technologies. From TechShop SF, we make products more compelling, shareable, and fun!

I'm using the cutting-edge Pier 9 workshop to experiment with media I haven't previously been able to explore: 3D-printing microcontroller enclosures (for Pinoccio), vacuum-forming carved wood to make bases for carbon fiber (for a brainwave-responsive animatronic mohawk), and water-jet cutting (for jewelry and masks).

Customer support and documentation for a cloud-based testing framework for Web and mobile apps. Saucy!I joined the team when we had only twelve people, and soon managed support singlehandedly for about six months. As the company grew over the rest of my time there, we hired four more people to handle this massive undertaking! I became very comfortable with the Git workflow, REST APIs, Selenium automation, and other staples of development that I apply to personal and professional projects now.

I specialized in building and soldering the sensor/light/sound units for our touch-responsive lamps. I also screen printed the designs onto plastic. We all did some assembly and packing - lots of solder and hot glue!

Responsive technology that you can stick to your clothes!From April-August 2011, I mounted a successful IndieGoGo campaign to purchase a computerized embroidery machine to make geeky patches.Since then, I have developed the concept into focusing on magnetic, transferrable wearable electronics, embedded in flexible cloth patches with stylishly geeky designs.I am keeping my mind on this project while I work to remain a sustainable human being.

As the first customer support tech at Own, I built a structured department with training and procedural documentation, as well as new-user guides and help articles.It was my privilege to work closely with our developers; with their assistance, I became comfortable with vim and other command-line tools needed for this position. I also handled sourcing, inventory, shipping, and replacement hardware for approximately 25 clients.Technologies: Intensive use of Zendesk, Flowdock, JIRA, ifbyphone, and Google Docs. I also used Nutshell and GitHub for some tasks.

• Screenprinted clothing, taught local teens to print, and ran our live-printing booth at regional events.• Later, I also became the business manager, additionally handling client relations, invoices, and our work schedule/payroll.• This position included using Adobe CS4 (mainly Illustrator / Photoshop) to create and edit designs, as well as organizational work with Google Docs and Dropbox.

Elected twice to the 5-member Board of Directors for my local nonprofit makerspace. I was also Archivist for the organization, curating the group's website and maintaining documentation. In this position, I made heavy use of Google Docs, Dropbox, and Wordpress.

Several days per week, I planned and led afterschool classes where children built and programmed robots using LEGO MindStorms NXT kits. This program focused on groups of 6-20 students, in grades K-5.In this position, I became deeply familiar with the NXTs' graphical programming language. More than that, I honed my skills teaching basic programming concepts and sensor types to young children - a challenge, both intellectually and socially!

With other All Hands Active hackerspace members, I planned and team-led afterschool DIY workshops at a number of Ann Arbor and Detroit-area middle schools. Groups ranged from 3-20 students, in grades 6-8.Sessions included LED throwies, chainmail, bleach painting, model airplanes, Arduino-based robots, and more.

As a Support consultant, I provided Tier I & II support for the University’s online CMS, via email, phone, chat, and live support. I learned a lot working in a team with 1-2 colleagues, and also held down solo shifts supporting individual sites for the University's hundreds of classes. Investigating issues sometimes included recognizing, replicating, and reporting bugs using Firebug and JIRA.I also contributed to QA, including smoke and regression testing, with my team and independently. During this time, we began using Selenium to supplement the manual testing we did with Google spreadsheets.• Technologies: Footprints ticketing system, Firebug, JIRA, SQL Developer, Selenium, Camtasia.

Fixed plumbing, appliances, and fixtures, coordinated with contractors, and added nonessential improvements for house of 25. I learned a lot about workplace safety, including working with electricity and particulates.I was graciously awarded the Golden Hammer award for outstanding service. (Thanks, Gregorians!)
