You must lead yourself first. The best leaders control themselves before they lead the masses. Their own needs, goals, values, and boundaries must be understood before they can expect themselves to show others the right path to follow. The four year long education I received at Boise State University allowed me to hone in my sense of self before diving into the sea that is the labor force. Every group project, research essay, and late night engrained another skill into my "self". Boise State solidified self-management, curiosity, and resiliency into who I am as a person as I took on the Honors College and being an Outstanding Graduate of my year. I truly believe that growth never ends and that BSU made me a lifelong learner. The work completed in my position at CBH Homes allows me to connect my experience in the housing industry with my passion for forward progress. While my official title stands as a Scheduling Coordinator, the role has developed into a fixer of sorts. After understanding my position, I have adapted the processes to minimize time spent on individual tasks to maximize the volume of jobs processed. I get the opportunity to implement programs and processes the office has never seen as I use my education and research experience to better my team. I lead myself first by reflecting on my habits of the past, managing my actions everyday, and developing goals to work toward in the future. I am constantly looking ahead while trying to understand how things behind us can impact change, progress, and innovation.
