At EFDD asbl we support schools, organisations and companies in educating their community on sustainability topics.Our core business is to follow schools (mainly higher education and secondary schools) in their transition towards sustainability, may it be with the management, the teachers or with working groups of students (ecoteams).My role consist of :* Organising events such as the "Journée Haute Ecole Durable" who gathered 11 high schools in Belgium to discuss how we can (and should) integrate sustainability in higher education. * Giving trainings on specific topics : How to define sustainability ? What is an environmental impact? How can it be measured ? What are the tools for this ? * Animating workshops with students and teachers. * Animating Climathons and other events to raise awareness/inform on sustainability problems we currently face. * Developping the skill set of young/futur adults to give them the tools to become actors of this sustainability transition. PREMIUM is Maastricht University’s Honours programme for high-performing, motivated master’s students offered together with EDLAB. Once selected, students are grouped together in interdisciplinary teams and start working on a project for a client from the (local) business or government sector under the guidance of a project mentor. Additionally, workshops and individual coaching sessions are provided to boost the student’s personal competence development in preparation of their future career.

The PREMIUM team I joined worked for Arie Voorburg (Arcadis Innovation & Business Development) who seeks to implement biophilic design thinking in the business development team.Our task was to identify environmental stress factors in urban/spatial/architectural design and to analyze the impact they have on our mental plus physical well-being.From this, we studied how the concept of biophilia* could have a positive influence on people if it were implemented in urban design.- Conduct a research study, supported by scientific evidence and practical examples of positive and negative environmental factors- Find barriers or stimulus for introducing new biophilic design principles- Give advice for follow up* The Biophilia Hypothesis suggests that humans possess an innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life. Summer student job. I loved working with a team of motivated students, during the rush hours teamwork is extremely important. Since the Warfa lake is very touristic I was able to practice my English, Dutch and Italian.

Student job: Event staff working on organizing and setting up sports events everywhere in Belgium.I learned to be effective on different grounds and event types. Everytime a new function and a new enthusiastic team.

In my free time I am a horse-riding instructor. I realized that I love teaching as much as I love horses. Teaching brought me the ability to better communicate and this to different audiences (children, teens and adults). Since horses are very sensible animals, I learned to easily spot my students mistakes and to make sure the solution I bring is clearly understood by my student but also his/her horse. I understand the importance of debriefing over a problematic situation and making sure everybody sees the issue in the same way in order to find a solution. I’m aware of how different surroundings impact the communication I have with my pupils. Every week I gain insight on how to keep students focused and motivated.
