I am a proud Indigenous woman, Mi'kmaw with ancestral ties to Listiguj and living on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin territory (colonially, ottawa). I work in mental wellness and believe that Indigenous knowledge and practices should be front and centre in discussions on mental health as our perspectives have always been tied to nature, the land, and spirituality. I am passionate about human rights and believe in equality for all regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or race. I have completed my BA Major in Honours Psychology with a Minor in Disability Studies, a graduate certificate in Autism and Behavioural Sciences, as well as my MA in Counselling Psychology and am working full time in national youth mental health at Jack.org. I hope to also complete a PhD focusing on returning to traditional ways of wellness, with a strong sense of decolonized counselling practices and emphasis on Indigenous sovereignty. I have worked with youth for all of my career thus far, working in inclusive education practices and research, classroom and program education, youth in the justice system, counselling youth, and through the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres (OFIFC) as the Wasa-Nabin (Ojibway for "to look ahead") coordinator supporting youth in making positive life changes. I currently work as the Indigenous Lead with Jack.org, ensuring our youth mental health programming is culturally relevant and inclusive for Indigenous youth across country.
