As a Medical Billing Specialist at Abilene Bone and Joint, I work with patients on payment plans, work with the patients insurance companies, as well as working with the doctors and scribes on referrals and payments.

We are in charge of taking complete care of the kids we have on campus. Included in that, is their transportation to and from medical appointments. I take those transportation logs and bill them through Medicaid. I tend to be on the computer or on the phone continually to make sure our bills go through so we can get paid. There are a few different forms which have to be filled out properly, other wise the bills will be declined, or we get in trouble by the State. My job is to make sure all forms are completed properly, then to submit prior authorizations, then when approved, send the bill onward to get paid. If denied, I resubmit it until it gets approved.

On a daily basis I would work with our companies project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors to be able to properly plan out each project that was heading our direction. Confirming bids and bid amounts, as well as reading the building plans to answer any questions they might have had. I also helped with payments after a job was won, making sure we paid them the correct amounts on time, for each contract that was signed.

My priority was to be the home helper, and to be a companion to those I stayed with. I would cook, clean, keep track of their medications, take them to appointments or grocery shopping, play games, etc. I also kept a log of how each person was doing mentally and physically each day and would turn it in to the main office, so they could know what kind of services were needed.

The main focus of my job is to take care of people. I'm their go to person whenever they are in a moment of need. Whether its because they need medicine, to use the restroom, or to get ready for family to come visit, I take complete care of my patients to make sure their stay at our facility is the best possible stay imaginable.
