Lyras’ 35 year's Olympic Studies and global sport experience, academic training, grantsmanship, research interest, and teaching, are centered on the management, educational, and impact assessment aspects of Olympism in Action: the integration of Olympic Education as a Peacebuilding platform for Social Innovation, Global Health and Sustainable Development. This framework has served as a blueprint for Lyras’ MA, Ph.D., and Post-Doctoral work, with competitive scholarships and funding received from the Olympic Solidarity, the UN, the Research and Innovation Foundation, Generations for Peace, and Goldman Sachs Gives.Lyras started his career in Sports Coaching where he was a celebrated basketball coach at local, national, and international levels. As a grantee and Principal Investigator, he has received 3,650,000 USD in funding to implement field data-driven Olympism in Society programs focusing on peacebuilding and development. The central function of Lyras' O4H and SFD theories aims to provide a universal platform across disciplines and contexts for assessing and enriching, personal and institutional capacity- and to optimize the use of Sport and Olympism as peacebuilding platform and an enabler of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Dr. Lyras has established the O4H-CIED Georgetown University Certificate Program, as part of a Sustainable Academic Innovation Legacy (SAIL for Tomorrow) venture that aims to advance a worldwide Academic Diplomacy Ecosystem committed to Olympism in Action teaching, research, and programming across fragile regions and communities in need.
