As a fellow, I conducted research to advocate for policy and legislative changes on women’s reproductive rights and equality. I also developed content for the chapter’s website to highlight social and policy issues.

During my field placement, I served as a student intern on the Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment Team. In my role, I provided Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PRI) to clients in the community and sought to overcome economic barriers to treatment by providing free services to clients whose insurance did not cover PRI. I also co-facilitated a mindfulness in yoga and meditation class at the center and shadowed other group therapy treatment groups.

As Vice Chair, I managed the legislative docket for biweekly meetings and kept a record of the committee’s decision on all legislation impacting student’s rights on campus. I also collaborated with students and faculty to revise the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities to increase protections for students living with mental illness and survivors of sexual assault and create the University Policy Advisory Board.

During my time as a research assistant, I worked on two research projects focused on children's mental health. These projects involved program implementation and evaluation as well as treatment evaluation. My role on the team included data management, facilitating communication between research sites and agencies and preparing and organizing research materials and documents. I also completed an independent study looking at the impact the Strengths Model for Youth has on the professional quality of life for mental health case managers implementing the model. I presented this study at the 31st Annual Research and Policy Conference on Child, Adolescent, and Young Adult Behavioral Health in Tampa, FL.

As the chair, I facilitated monthly meetings with students, organizations and administration to discuss issues addressing student safety. The Safety Advisory Board allocates a Supportive Services Fee across three community-based organizations addressing domestic violence, sexual assault and suicide. I was responsible for managing the budget for the Safety Fee reserve used for projects to increase student safety. While I was chair, I secured a fee increase from the Finance Committee to create an annual income to replenish the Safety Fee in order to increase monetary funding for safety projects. In 2018, the board funded two trauma informed investigation rooms for the University of Kansas Public Safety Office and Office of Institutional Opportunity and Access in spring 2018

I provided students ranging in age from six months to five years old with one-on-one interaction in classroom setting of approximately twenty students. For this position, I obtained a CPR/AED & First Aid Certificate.

As a research assistant, I analyzed data and performed a literature review on preventative factors in buffering stress responses with participant attachment styles as a mitigating factor and presented the findings at a university conference. I also administered quantitative research studies to study the impacts of attachment style in adults and performed data management in excel for ongoing studies. I was awarded a Research Experience Program (REP) Certificate.
