 Led and managed multidisciplinary team of Mt. Sinai Hospital, Chicago to receive “Gold Safe Sleep Champion” certification, awarded by the “Cribs for Kids”. Attend high-risk deliveries; participates actively in the delivery room neonatal resuscitation with the neonatologists from 22 weeks gestational age and perform an initial physical assessment. Skilled in PICC insertion procedure on neonates without ultrasound guidance, confirming the placement with a chest X-ray, and getting the neonatologist approval to use the line. Participate in the weekly multidisciplinary clinical rounds and involve in providing comprehensive care for infants. Coordinate with the emergency medical service team to transport critical neonates by ground from a Level II NICU to a Level III NICU. Designed and implemented evidence-based personalized nursing care plan for neonates/infants and evaluated it daily for effectiveness. Administer medications, monitor side effects, recognize deterioration in patient’s status and communicate critical changes/lab results to the neonatologist promptly.  Mentor new graduate nurses in neonatal care protocols and procedures and help them acclimate to the NICU. Manage the NICU as a charge nurse in planning patient care, co-ordinating staff management, and evaluating individual and collective outcomes of the patient care provided during night shift. Conducted internal audits in the NICU safe sleep practice documentation and safe sleep parental education, that significantly improved nursing practices and documentation by 30%. Updated hospital guidelines on infant safe sleep practices based on the latest APA recommendations.  Identified the available community resources and utilized them to accomplish a practice change in the infant safe sleep practices; therefore, the NICU nurses’ can role-model parents in the prevention of Sudden Unexpected Infant Death.

 Monitored newborn transition after birth, performed initial physical assessment, took care of their nutritional needs, reported any abnormalities to the neonatologist/neonatal nurse practitioner. Assisted neonatologist/neonatal nurse practitioners with procedures such as intubation and umbilical line placements to stabilize the sick neonates until transfer to a Level III NICU. Prepared family members for discharge plans right from the time of admission. Educated new mothers on the short- and long-term benefits of breastfeeding to initiate and establish early lactation, and newborn care.

 Provided nursing care for neonates on ventilator, high-frequency oscillatory ventilator, nitric oxide, body cooling, and phototherapy. Offered comfort and therapeutic support to the parents/family members by establishing trust through effective communication. Educated parents on infant care and advocated for breastfeeding.

 Provided postpartum nursing care focused on preventing excessive bleeding, infection & relief of discomfort.  Educated and assisted mothers with breastfeeding and caring for their babies. Used tocodynamometer on antepartum mothers to monitor fetal heart rate, variability, contractions, accelerations, and decelerations, document category I, II, or III tracings, and communicate to the obstetricians.

* Provided pre/post-operative nursing care for patients scheduled for an angiogram/coronary artery bypass graft. Analyzed ECG rate and rhythm, reported any changes from baseline to the physicians and implemented orders. Monitored patients while on various drips & cardiac medications and monitored for any complications. Educated patient and their family members regarding diet, exercise, diabetic care, equipment usage, medication, and prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

 Provided pre/post-operative nursing care for patients with tracheostomy, chest tube, nephrostomy tube, gastrostomy tube, wound vac, and drains. Monitored for complications and reported to physicians/surgeons and implemented those orders.  Cared for patients with drug withdrawal symptoms, suicidal thoughts, and patients on restraints.

 Monitored vital signs, assisted patients with various day-to-day activities such as bathing, toileting, and dressing. Maintained patient comfort and safety, notified nurses with any observed changes in patient’s behavior.
