In this position I was assigned to a professor who researching the relationship between court rulings and the EPA. In this capacity, I was expected to collect and organize raw data gleaned from EPA reports and court documents related to those reports, input it into Excel and SPSS, and then use those programs to represent and analyze that data.

As the first AmeriCorps member serving with Big Brothers Big Sisters in Grayling and Roscommon Counties I was responsible for initiating and managing organization operations in the region. Doing so included developing and coordinating with other local actors (NGOs, municipal government, schools, service organizations, and businesses) to establish partnerships that would guarantee opportunities for future growth, and a steady stream of donors and volunteers.I was also responsible for developing and overseeing mentor relationships between young people and appropriate volunteers from the community. Facilitating these relationships included interviewing applicants and pairing them based on personal compatibility and the goals of the parent, running background checks and conducting reference interviews, training potential mentors, hosting informational sessions, executing home inspections, and networking at community events to identify possible mentors. Effectively managing these relationships also required frequent monitoring functions, including follow up interviews and other metrics that would subsequently be uploaded to a centralized database.
