I had the opportunity to write two grants, with the first leading to 300% more funding for the second grant. The project was headed by Dr Brian Barthel at UVU. I organized Days for Girls kit making projects with UVU staff, faculty, and students, as well as researching the country of Cambodia, helping to get our group ready for the humanitarina project in Cambodia, organizing needed supplies, and mobilizing University students in action. I participated in country for the humanitarian project from the first grant where we placed latrines, water filtration systems, and handwashing stations. I also participated in teaching feminine hygiene in rural Cambodian secondary schools. I will never forget when I handed a 12 year old girl a couple of pair of underwear, and she grabbed my hands and said, "Thank you!" in her Cambodian accent. I just got chills, because it was somthing so simple, but was appreciated so much. While at one of the homes in rural Cambodia, we discovered that it cost $6 for a school uniform, and the little girl in the home did not have one, so she could not attend school. She had wanted the pink scarf I was wearing, but our contact in Cambodia shared that we could help her even more by buying her a uniform, so that she could attend school. This discovery led to another program and funding for school uniforms for the second grant I wrote for the program.

My experience at UVU was remarkable and it has changed me. I interned at the Student Wellness Center, taught classes as requested by faculty, and led University student groups, instructing in an evidence based program called The Body Project, giving the involved student knowledge and empowering them concerning body image. The Body Project's data was significant, and armed participants against eating disorders. The internship gave me the opportunity to teach and instruct students at the University level.
