Profile bio

About Alexis Halstead

I am passionate about helping others and am pursuing a career in physical therapy. I have shadowed at 4 separate physical therapy facilities; one with a neurologic concentration, one with a sports medicine focus within orthopedic and musculoskeletal treatments, one in a pediatric and neurological disorder setting─all of the prior being outpatient settings─and one inpatient setting at a skilled nursing facility. I also volunteered at the UF Health Rehab Center for Kids, where I got to observe pediatric physical therapy in practice. I hold several leadership positions across campus, all with the goal of helping others. I have a minor in Spanish and put this enthusiasm for language and culture into my roles as President of Communications for Club Olas, a social impact and culture club that provides a sustainable source of income to Olas moms living in the poverty stricken zone 3 area of Guatemala by having them teach Spanish to students, as well as serving as a UF NaviGators International Mentor and International Scholars Program student. I serve the greater community of UF as a whole through my roles as a First Year Florida Peer Leader, where I teach a one credit course to incoming freshmen to help them adjust to college and learn of all the resources available to them, and an ambassador and mentor for my college where I get to give back to a community that has enabled me to thrive during my time at UF. I have proficient Spanish abilities, am trained in music, and have an up to date AED/CPR/First Aid certification. I studied abroad in Seville, Spain this summer to complete my minor and was able to immerse myself fully into the language and culture by living with a host family. I hope to one day work oversees as a physical therapist for a fútbol team in Spain where I can blend my enthusiasm for language and culture with my passion for traveling.

Listed skills include Writing, Communication, Swimmer, Ear Training, and 1 others.
