As a cashier at Kroger, I am one of the last faces the customer sees. Because of this, it is essential for me to make sure the customer leaves the store with a positive experience. I have to be personable to the customer by asking about their shopping experience, if there is anything that could have been improved by us to make their experience better for them, and give the customer a chance to provide any questions or concerns for me. I will always go above and beyond to make sure the customer is satisfied when they leave our store. Since my job is 100% customer interaction, I have gained strong customer service skills being that I have been a cashier for 3+ years now. I also am responsible for training other new employees on the register, as well as helping them with and questions and concerns they may have, showing leadership.

As a Courtesy Clerk, I had many different responsibilities. Many of them were more focused on making sure the store was clean and organized. I was obligated to ensure cleanliness throughout the store by cleaning the bathrooms, work areas, and spills to protect other workers and customers from an unhealthy and dangerous environment. I often had to return items back to the shelves and make sure the shelves were organized. I monitored the amount of carts available to the customers in the lobby area and pushed 200 carts into the lobby per shift to guarantee that customers had the resources they needed for an excellent shopping trip. I also bagged groceries for roughly 300 customers a day further elevating the customers’ experience and assisted approximately 20 customers per shift to their vehicle with their groceries.

During my last semester, I participated in a class called Entrepreneurial Business Consulting, where I was involved with two real-world clients as a student consultant. I collaborated with a team of 6 members in order to deliver 2 key deliverables and recommendations to the clients during both projects. My team and I were tasked to research and develop an industry analysis for the clients in order to explore possible new markets for the clients to emerge into. My team and I communicate directly with the client to provide timely updates of new findings in order to stay on vision.

During my Junior year I was involved in the Integrated Business Cluster in the College of Business. During my time in Cluster I was involved in two team projects during the span of the semester. For the first project, we did extensive research on the radio industry to then provided out Senior Partners with an industry analysis. We then applied our research findings in order to create 3 recommendations for a company in the radio industry to improve their business. For the second project, we were given the option to create any business we desired. My team and I created a business model for a subscription box company, gaining insight into the inner-workings of other subscription-based companies such as Birchbox and Scentbird, and what makes them successful. This experience instilled in me strong team working skills, given that my team and I were together every day working on our project. I also improved my public speaking and presentation skills tremendously considering that we had to present our deliverables 6 times as well as other presentations we had to do in class. My cluster experience definitely shaped me into the young professional I am today.
