My multi-method doctoral research explores trajectories of self-directed violence amongst women and girls in a high-burden, low-resource South Asian context. With a sub-focus on perinatal mental health and self-harm in the perinatal period, I've developed the world's first stage-based model (The Pain Pathway) on why women and girls end up choosing and using self-harm, including during pregnancy and the postnatal window.
