Heavily contributed to Square's serving platform while working across multiple roles as Square grew from a startup of 300 employees to an enterprise with over 7000 employees.Highlighted roles and projects:Infrastructure engineer on a cross-company team of 15 individuals who launched the first version of Cash App in 2013.Worked on the systems infrastructure team responsible for building Square's physical data centers on the US East Coast, US West Coast and in Japan. This included onsite visits to the data centers to interact directly with server hardware when required.Early member of Square's Observability team. Helped write a centralized server monitoring tool in Ruby to replace multiple, independent Nagios instances.Member of the Data Engineering team focused on scaling and stabilizing the on-prem Hadoop & Vertica clusters. Also wrote software to manage data growth on these clusters.Lead for the cross-platform containerization project to move Square's MySQL data stores to Docker containers in production.Interim Network Engineering Manager (3 months) for a team of 5 network engineers responsible for all aspects of Square's network, including production network transport and transit, core networking hardware in Square’s data centers, and Square’s payment gateways with the major payment networks.Engineering Manager (18 months) for the platform Build team of 4 engineers responsible for building and maintaining Square’s custom build system which builds, tests, and bundles software for release to production for 1400+ engineers.Member of the taskforce responsible for migrating Square's software repositories from an on-prem Bitbucket instance to Github. Work included writing multiple backend services to utilize Github's API to improve developer productivity at Square.
