About Alexander Bruno
Here's the thing: I'm lousy at being bored.I don't mean that in the not-really-self-deprecating "My flaw is that I work too hard!" way that recruiters are tired of hearing; I mean that I get restless without new problems to solve or different areas to devote headspace to. I picked Mechanical Engineering not because of what it offered me, but because of what I couldn't give up. I liked statics and thermodynamics, yes, but what about electrical and bioengineering? More than anything, programming? I took classes in C and C++, extra english courses, even spent time with a culinary research group, not for degree credit, but because I wanted to think and learn about something other than my MechE work. Not to say I didn't have enough work already - MechE curriculum at Clemson is no joke - but I desperately needed that creativity. I had no desire to be an expert in any of those fields, but knowing just enough "to be dangerous" is something that has always appealed to me. And as a result, I discovered a love of teaching and a lack of fear of public speaking. I discovered an infatuation with coding of all kinds, from MATLAB to PLC/ladder logic to C++ and Excel/VBA.Luckily for me, many of my previous positions have been equally accommodating in allowing me to branch out a bit. In multiple positions now I've requested leave to work on pet projects and process improvements, from developing custom scripts to automate data tracking and reporting to taking charge of administration of a team tool. I've applied system design requirements, developed software requirements, taken on ISS payloads far more complex than I had ever imagined, and asked, "Why do we do it that way?" more times than I can count. I appreciate new opportunities to learn and broaden my horizons, and to work on multi-discipline projects. I would say my strengths are adaptability, learning new tools quickly, and asking questions unashamedly.
Listed skills include Matlab, Microsoft Excel, Plc Programming, Certified Solidworks Associate For Mechanical Design, and 1 others.

General Engineering Graduate Assistant
The next evolution from working as a undergrate teaching assistant for Clemson's General Engineering was working as a Graduate Assistant to the department. As a GA, I had a few primary roles: administration, reporting, and UTA coordination. - I would take care of any odd jobs or organization the ~16 professors in the department might need, from grading, to classroom tech upgrades, to inventory of lab materials. - I was also in charge of tracking and reporting attendance and other records for all students in the department. To facilitate this, rather than doing things by hand, I used my expertise in MATLAB and Excel to automate much of the work. I also made sure to fully comment and documented my scripts so that my successors in the position could use them.- I coordinated and monitored the Undergraduate Teaching Assistant program of ~45 tutors, helping to coordinate shifts, absences evening hours, and any questions or conflicts. Finally, in a less-common role for a GA, I was trusted in a few cases to fill in as a substitute for professors that had conflicts. After my time tutoring, I was thrilled with the opportunity and really enjoyed working in this capacity.
Pre-College (Sat / Act) Teacher
I worked part-time as a KAPLAN teacher, in charge of running standardized exam prep classes of ~5-15 students and instructing them in the KAPLAN methods for a particular exam (SAT/ACT). Classes were 3 hours long and were extremely interactive and engaging; using provided materials, I would prepare an outline and class notes with exercises and talking points. Presentation and teaching skills were absolutely essential.
Undergraduate Teaching Assistant
For most of my undergraduate degree, I worked Clemson's General Engineering tutoring program. An Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (or UTA) was responsible for helping the teacher in a general engineering classroom and making the class run smoothly. Responsibilities varied from teacher to teacher, but for the most part, I functioned as part tutor and part aide, answering questions and passing out materials as needed. In addition, UTAs would (in groups) hold "office hours" open tutoring sessions several nights a week without teachers present. Luckily for my development, General Engineering also held training sessions and seminars to improve teaching and personal skills. This was position was incredibly valuable for me, as I discovered a love of teaching and tutoring I wouldn't have otherwise. I went on to tutor privately, as well, for the remainder of my time in school.
Summer Intern: Maintenance Engineering
I worked as a maintenance engineering intern for the summer, juggling multiple projects to fix and/or improve various processes around the plant. - Analyzed maintenance issues and designed solutions that saved the company time and money in future repairs- Handled 8 – 10 projects in separate areas at the same time under 3 different engineers- Obtained field measurements and learned good practices for field estimation and calculations- Gained experience in PPE and safety culture in a large chemical plant and independently dealing with outside vendors
Summer Intern: Test Operations (Advanced Test Development)
I worked for two consecutive summers as an intern in Qorvo's (formerly RF Micro Devices) Test Operations department (the company changed names between the two summers). A few of my responsibilities included:- Accomplished both Mechanical and Electrical engineering-centered objectives such as troubleshooting electrical devices and modifying mechanical parts to work together- Interpreted SolidWorks engineering drawings to build switch testing devices, which are now being used in Beijing, China to detect defective products- Contributed to the company’s SolidWorks 3D model repository as well as updating existing models and drawings- Gained experience in working with soldering irons, heat shrink guns, circuit board inspection, and wiring diagrams
