I led a specialised team maintaining and rewriting an eCommerce website with around 10,000 active customers. My primary focus was a suite of in-house applications for digital print production and a suite of services which comprise their backend. I took a disciplined user-story-driven approach to product design, delegating implementation and enforcing a well-defined software development lifecycle.

I worked primarily on SAP's internal sales app GSA, a Django app with integration of a number of Java-based modules including Solr, Birt and OpenKM (a GWT-based document management system substantially extended by the GSA team and tailored to GSA's specific purposes); along with a number of RabbitMQ-based processes connecting and consolidating various of SAP's third-party sales-asset management and CRM systems to Django and to Solr (by way of RSS feeds, REST APIs as well as good old fashioned MySQL connections). Along with cutting-edge use of HTML5 and CSS3, GSA's frontend is tied together by a hand-rolled Event-Subscriber-model Javascript framework being continually extended.I also worked on a number of eCommerce sites based on Tangent's proprietary PHP framework SWC. This included traversing the stack from top to bottom, including Solr, Apache, Memcache, MySQL, PHP, HTML, CSS and Javascript (jQuery and hand-rolled) to develop rapidly new functionality both for specific clients as well as for the SWC framework (to be used by developers across the company). This included large scale data feed integration with PHP and Python as well as integration of third-party API specifications including but not limited to the Datacash gateway.

I analysed and developed automated data processes for large scale SQL databases using PHP and Python to implement business logic for eCommerce applications. This included integrating bibliographic and stock data from book suppliers, making it available to a number of sites, maintaining data integrity and producing modular, fast code, version-controlled using SVN and Git, documented using Sphinx and deployed using phing.

Worked as the sole developer on a number of commercial web projects, involving, among other things, eCommerce, including the eWay API; working with ZenCart, including deep modification as well as development of themes and modules; Shopify, including development of themes as well as apps using the Shopify API; coding shopping cart functionality; live currency conversion; Wordpress, including theme development and implementation of Wordpress plugins, including PHPurchase, as well as integration of Wordpress into CakePHP and hand-coded PHP sites; CakePHP development including custom components and behaviors as well as MVC best practices; integration of Google Maps including geocoding and search based on location and radius; Google Analytics; Google Sitemaps; XML for semantic output and API testing; Mailchimp; Photoshop and Flash; Filemaker API; SSL management; SQL database design and development including ER modelling with UML as well as search indexing; AJAX with jQuery including feedback with JSON; Prototype; using Javascript libraries for lightboxing, encryption and data validation; cross-browser testing including development for IE6 and mobile devicesMore generally the job involved liaising with clients, including eliciting requirements, troubleshooting and development according to client and user feedback; liaising with external developers, graphic designers and technical support staff; SEO; web server management including server migration, DNS management, local development for migration to production and SVN version control including setting up and maintaining an SVN server; self training; training my successor; documenting code with comments; producing, proofreading and updating content; semantic HTML and standards- and accessibility-compliant coding practices; working with existing code; and developing along the entire Software Development Lifecycle

Worked as the sole developer in close consultation with a graphic designer on an experimental commercial website for the company, which used jQuery and CSS (including CSS3) to implement a highly dynamic animated interface including collapsible menus and transitions between sections while still accounting for SEO and accessibility, as well as an SQL-based content management system
