Colleagues describe him as "Alex mentored me during our time together in Amazon Care. He is sharp, open minded, encouraging, inspiring and supportive. He is an influential mentor and showed a high-level care for my success. He challenged me to bring different perspectives into account on handling ambiguous business problems. Alex would be an asset to any team and as a mentor and teammate, he earns my highest recommendation", "I was disappointed to hear that Alex would be leaving VCI as we would be losing a valuable asset. He possesses a high level of knowledge about Informatica products and leverages that knowledge in the code that he produces. There were numerous times where we utilized Alex to create reusable code solutions that were later integrated into large portions of our code base. This code improved our performance, reduced testing cycles and decreased development times. In addition he provided ETL development leadership with the team throughout the SDLC. From creative ETL solutions to deployment support, Alex added high value in all aspects of our development process.", and "Alex provided exceptional detailed analysis and was quick to pick up all of the details of what was needed for the ETL work. He was pleasure to work with and a fantastic asset to our team. His insights and openness to flexible solutions allowed us to achive many of our quick turn around goals. He was professional and extremely talented in how he resolved many challenges. A great person to work with."

Forecasting LeadAmazon Apr 2021 - Nov 2022Seattle, Wa, UsAmazon CareExecuted capacity planning for Amazon Care, combining data from enterprise sales, marketing, clinician scheduling, licensing, clinician onboarding, and customer demand signals into a cohesive picture amidst a pandemic. Used Erlang models to build what-if cost vs service level tables for leadership.Wrote simulations of a job assignment model I invented to demonstrate superior licensing utilization and customer service.Performed longitudinal analysis of customers to yield superior demand forecasts. -
Business Intelligence Engineer IiiAmazon Dec 2019 - Apr 2021Seattle, Wa, UsAutomated Advertising Data ScienceThis group bids on millions of keywords for Google Ads. I performed multi-stage transformations and feature engineering on multi-billion row datasets. For an internal Amazon-wide tool, I responsibly demonstrated how row-level confidential data could be deduced from aggregate data and worked with researchers to prevent such an attack. -
Senior Supply Chain Manager / Senior Topology Business Intelligence EngineerAmazon Jun 2017 - Nov 2019Seattle, Wa, UsAmazon Global Logistics, InboundI developed Amazon’s first unified, repeatable forecast of inbound international freight movement. Stitched together a lot (10+) of disparate data signals from various internal authorities. Incorporated Trump tariff effects. Performed analysis for congressional public policy staff. -
Software Developer IiiExpeditors Jun 2012 - May 2017Bellevue, Washington, UsI worked on the firm’s enterprise data warehouse. Two stories stand out.Story #1: Ocean export employees worldwide would have workflows that assigned tasks (eg collect paperwork for a container). Unfortunately, there were several intractable data inconsistencies that had persisted for years and no one could seem to fix. So I reverse engineered 5,000 lines of SQL into modular components, cutting SLOC by 80%. I uncovered many errors in the process and was able to connect the new code into the old visualization framework. Employees didn’t need to be retrained nor suffer through old bugs. I also developed a new architectural framework to eliminate high coupling.Story #2: Order Management is a service offering to Expeditors customers. In the data warehouse, order management data typically had a latency of 8 hours. I reduced the latency to 2 minutes. This was far better than the “standard” SLA of 2 hours, and I was encouraged to slow it down. I talked to some sales folks and learned that anything below 15 minutes would enable us to offer a brand new dray management service to customers, which we subsequently launched. As of Q1 2022, the workflow has been running successfully for 8+ years. -
ConsultantInformatica Jan 2011 - May 2012Redwood City, Ca, UsI worked as a consultant in Professional Services for two clients on multi-month product implementations. This entailed 70% data engineering and 30% product/program/people management. I worked exclusively with Informatica’s flagship ETL product, PowerCenter. For the consumer financing arm of a Fortune Global 50 client, I fixed a portfolio of hundreds of poorly performing scripts (or “mappings”).For a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company, I was hired to perform data integration tasks for drug study results arriving weekly. Instead, I worked to eliminate that work entirely. I observed that business rules could be succinctly encoded as values in an input table instead. I then wrote a single script to interpret these rules for any given week, removing recurring opEx. -
Senior AssociatePricewaterhousecoopers Jan 2009 - Dec 2009GbI worked in Chicago’s Advisory in a small 6 person practice called Business Analytics & Strategy. We built Excel models to assist clients in two areas: (1) nascent business modeling and (2) valuation modeling for use in negotiation. One consistent theme was a heavy intellectual asset component.Notable clients were a Fortune 50 hotel conglomerate that required a financial valuation of its software system. Another client was an international electronics firm that needed help exploring its market along with some creative financing options. Typical client projects were valued $100MM+. Lots of attention to detail and customer focus. -
Senior Software EngineerGeneral Motors 2001 - 2007Detroit, Michigan, UsI worked in Powertrain Controls’ software tools group. The most notable tool I invented and built was called RiBeTT, or Ring Behavioral Test Tool.Ever plug in a string of Christmas lights? Either all the lights work or none of them work. RiBeTT enabled engineers to find the broken “bulb” in a rapid and intuitive manner.I won GM’s highest technical honor, the Boss Kettering Award, as a result. But it’s a higher honor that thousands of software engineers have used the tool successfully for 20 years until its retirement in Summer of 2021. It’s conservatively saved $120MM over its lifetime.
