Advisor To Ceo And Chairman Of The Board
Unipharm is a privately held, mid-sized nutraceutical and pharmaceutical company. The company’s manufacturing base is in the US, with sales primarily focused in former USSR republics, Poland and Mongolia. In the dual role of Advisor to the CEO and Chairman of the Board, I engaged in business development, regulatory affairs, HR, and brand reputation management advising. I also coordinated external experts and legal counsel to make sure the company operated within each country’s legal and compliance framework. I worked closely with country managers for Ukraine, Russia, Romania, Poland, Belarus, Moldova, Romania, Macedonia, Azerbaijan, China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Turkey, and the US. ▶ A major facet of my role was to secure smooth leadership transitions as a country manager in Russia was exiting and a new one was being hired, including keeping employees’ productivity and morale high. I also served in an interim role during the transition. ▶ Another important role I filled was establishing and winding down subsidiaries in Romania and Russia; I also coordinated establishing of branches in Moldova, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan. These projects required me to learn the legal environment in each country to determine the optimal framework for establishing and exiting organizations. I then worked onsite to spearhead efforts. ▶ By navigating the rapidly changing legal environment, I was able to ensure the company maintained status on all of its products in key markets. I achieved this by establishing a system for documentary support and establishing internal operating procedures related to the lifecycle of product registration documents. ▶ One of the issues I addressed was protecting the company’s IP in former COMECON countries. By working with a network of patent attorneys in each country, we engaged in a three-year process to apply for, and receive, six trademarks. Additionally, 2 trademarks were returned to the company in Romania.
Business Consultant
I worked on identification of sources of additional financing for SME and collaborated in arranging of financing for a privately held IT business in Ontario.
Vice President
As Vice President, I spearheaded a number of special projects for the President and the Chairman of the Board. Some of my roles included negotiator as leaders exited the company, on-board coordinator for the replacements, and interim country manager during position vacancies. ▶ I served as Ukraine’s interim country manager during a transition period and ensured a smooth change of leadership in Ukraine and Kazakhstan. ▶ Together with the company's most senior managers or independently, I screened and interviewed candidates to leading positions in Ukraine, Kazakhstan and in the US Headquarters.
Country Manager, Russia
In this role, I rebuilt the Russian branch from the ground up and established a subsidiary company. My efforts included obtaining the necessary government approvals, permissions, licenses and documents, hiring a full complement of staff to both organizations, make office leases, purchasing a car fleet, acquiring a warehouse, and establishing relationships with contractors and Banks (Raiffeisen Bank, in particular). In this dual role, I implemented strategy, fulfilled sales, and managed financials.▶ I was tapped to spearhead a turnaround in Russia that led to 150% sales growth in just two years. This growth was the key factor in attracting Credit Suisse as a strategic shareholder. ▶ In order for our Russian subsidiary company to operate as a wholesale facility—focused on serving smaller-scale distribution companies—I led an initiative to obtain the necessary federal license. As a result of my efforts, Unipharm entered into contracts with 10 distributors in just two years, which added 10% to the company’s top-line results.
Consultant To Head Of Representative Office In Russia
MedIT is a privately held R&D company that designs, develops, and produces pioneering PC-based solutions for recording human vital signs. The company provides seamless integration into various electronic health records (EHR) systems. I served as a consultant on a part-time basis after beginning my employment with Unipharm, helping the new head in Russia to go through a transition period. I provided him with coaching and support in general management, HR, accreditation renewal with the Russian government, and lease agreement renewal.
Ceo/Head Of Representative Office, Russia
I held the dual roles of CEO of the Russian subsidiary company and Head of the Representative Office in Russia simultaneously. I managed all day-to-day operations in Russia, Belarus, and Georgia, making sure the lines of communication were open with headquarters. I also engaged in business development with general practitioners, medical offices, and regional health ministries. I introduced MedIT to Credit Lyonnais and to Delta Bank (later acquired by GE Money Bank) and established strong lasting working relationship between the Company and these Banks.▶ I played a significant role in positioning MedIT to obtain funding for health programs from the European Union’s TACIS (Technical Assistance to Commonwealth of Independent States), the Norwegian government, and the SFINCSS (Simulation of Flight of an International Crew on Space Station) project. ▶ One of the projects I managed was developing a pioneering line of PC-based ECG diagnostic solutions that could be integrated with Nordic Electronic Patient Records and marketed to Scandinavian countries. Another project involved delivering software and hardware development for the Telemedicare project as part of the 5th frame European Union Programme. ▶ Research reports which I co-authored focused on identifying market niches for innovative medical equipment being developed by MedIT. I collaborated with experts from the Institute of Medical and Biological Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences and with Sintef (Norway) on these projects.
Executive Assistant To Project Manager
Meton-Etep is a privately held group of civil construction, trade and service companies operating globally. I served as a Member of a Marketing Committee contributing to development of marketing strategy and a team building program of a 3 million T/a cement plant in Russia in which the group had a stake. I obtained a federal civil construction license for the group`s wholly-owned Russian subsidiary.
Executive Assistant To General Manager (Construction Projects In Former Ussr Countries)
I organized meetings, negotiated agendas, produced reports and presentations, managed and prepared correspondence and memos, managed records and kept minutes.
